I really need to find a way stop watching anime. I can't resist watching new anime. I am in college, and my grade are going down a lot. I promised myself not watch any more anime once the fall 2013 season is finish. But I can't, I got hooked when I watch the first episode of some new anime. And darn it, I get hooked again :(

You are HAVING the exact same problem I had friend.

Okay, trust me on this, the only way to stop is to not stop at all. I believe if you tell your mind to stop anything at all, be it "OMG I'm gonna never eat fatty foods again! I'm too fat!" or "I am done with videogames! TOO much of a distraction!", then you psychologically want these things more and thus the problem is WORSE. You LOVE anime, like I do. Like all of us do. That is okay my friend, nothing wrong with that. However, you are letting it get to be more important than your responsibilities. That is not ok, like I discovered. What you need to do is tell yourself this: I (insert name here) will work on homework/studying etc. until (set certain time at night here) and then, no matter where I am at in my studies or homework (unless it is a necessity to be done tomorrow), will be off for the rest of the night and watch anime to relax. Now this doesn't mean you only work at your responsibilities for an hour and a half and say I"M DONE! NO!!!! You earn the right to watch anime by doing what you need to do. Not only will you get your responsibilities completed but you will watch anime with a full and carefree heart. TRUST ME! This works, you just have to do it! Don't think about it! Don't sit there debating which one you'd rather be doing! No, like Nike says, JUST DO IT! Don't give up your joys in life, because that is what keeps us sane! NO! Just put what is important first and then enjoy yourself!

Seems like you have a lot of people routing for you. If you stop watching anime chances are you will find something else to pass the time with therefore, like others have said you need to MANAGE YOUR TIME A LITTLE BETTER! College is suppose to be the next best four years of your life. It's a time when you discover who you really are, your likes, dislikes, weaknesses and your strengthens which are all formed AWAY from your parents if you are able to live on campus. Anyway without lecturing, find your path. Maybe its your classes or major that's boring. Not all classes are interesting but are you in the right field? When your studying something of interest it will give you the excitement like you have watching anime! Get prepared because more than likely you have to get your Master's.

PS: I just started watching anime last summer: Ive completed fairy tail, bleach, and reborn...by the way does anyone know what the points mean in CR. I will never give this up it relieves me from stress but I manage my time.

Oh! That might work! You could even skip the Beyblade part. You could probably get some really good grants or scholarships as a result.

Why stop watching anime? Sounds like one heck of a task. My advice to you is to divide up your schedule, focus on your studies, study with friends away from anime, etc

If you have a mac, try the app called Self Control.
Block any site you're watching anime on for x hours of the day and allot an amount of time that you let yourself on.
Works for me. I do CR, youtube, other anime sites, manga sites, Facebook. Increased my productivity.
I'm earning my doctorate right now, so I really needed to focus - also try 25 minute activity bursts with 3 minute breaks that are timed.

Let me know if that does it for you. :>

Easy . . . just stop....

Being that you asked this at an anime BBS/forum... you might think about trying harder.

They put it on Hulu, and I was like "ok cool" because I use to watch that shit when I was young. Watch 43 seconds of the first episode and turned off my PS3

As IcedPeachTea and maybe others said, watching currently ongoing anime is hugely important. That way you only have a couple shows to watch each day, and you also have stuff to look forward to for the next day so it's easy to stop after watching a few shows. The other big thing (for me at least) is only watching at night during dinner and later, after I'm done with all my work for the day.

If you currently spend way too much time watching, you'll also need to find something else to sort of take the place of it as you're cutting back. This is seriously what they tell cigarette addicts as well because it's an important part of forming a new habit. For example, you could start exercising each day. The important thing is to form a new habit/routine that's healthy, and that usually takes about a month.

Anime isn't that important. If you seriously care about your grades, then you should do what you think is more important.
