Jersey Shore, Teen Mom, Real World, Keeping up with the Kardashians, practically anything on MTV and similar networks. What are your opinions on reality television. Real life as entertainment. Voyeurism and objectification of people, assigning value on people and their lives by it's level of audience.

BTW, I don't really care one way or the other, just something me and a friend discussed one day and I'd like to see how others felt about it. I rather enjoy reality shows, as long as it's competitive and showcases people's talents, such as The Voice, FaceOff, Ninja Warrior, etc.

I don't watch reality tv as defined in it's typical sense....honey booboo, jersey shore etc. I don't understand why people would even choose to watch it. The sad thing above all else is that people really do care. Even people who say they don't care, care enough to post below news articles of Kim Kardashian saying they don't care.

Reality TV is anything but reality. Most of what is filmed by the crews is really boring and they cut and edit what they get to make it exciting and more salacious than what it really is. I remember reading one reality TV star saying that the show bleeped out words that weren't swear words to make it sound like they were swearing at each other during a fight. I really think most reality TV is created to let the viewers feel that there are people who are worse than us that we can laugh and make fun off. Oh, look at the cute redneck family that puts their kid in beauty pageants, wow, don't those Applachain hicks that hunt ducks say and do the strangest things?

Reality TV is cheap to make in comparison to regular TV shows. Since they get an audience and are cheap, they are a goldmine for the TV networks.

I don't like the shows you listed but I do like reality shows like Survivor, The Amazing Race and stuff like that. I also like some of the cooking competition shows.

The only reality show I watched was "Rough Science".
I didn't care it they weren't scripted, the show had no plot and the whole thing was low budget.
It was still worth it.

It may be on TV but it's far from real.

Ah well, they put themselves on tv and make money off of it, so as long as the participants are willing I will continue to watch their antics on the tube.
