Question for PS Vita owners

I have a question for all the Vita owners around... How important are the joy-sticks on the vita? The reason I ask is because i'm interested in buying one.. but not so much interested in investing over 150$ on a second handheld when I already own a 3DS. There are lots of Vitas currently for sale on the internet that are fully functional aside from having either a left or right joy-stick not working.
So I guess do most games require the use of both? If not.. which would be the better option to go for on the broken one? Left side(Directional) or right side(X, O, Triangle, Square). I was thinking the directional joy-stick would be less important being that the true directional pad works.

Please lend me some input on this.. other than the obvious.. "dont be a cheap-o and just buy a working one" haha. I'm in a bargain mood at the moment

-Edit- if it matters.. I would be buying it to play RPGs exclusively.. so I wouldn't see myself really ever playing a game on it that required the use of both joy-sticks at once.. such as a game like Halo where you would move with one and change sight with the other.

The second Joy-stick is used a lot. Even in RPGs. Mostly its indie games that don't really use them.

It entirely depends on the game, but I agree: It is rare to find a game that doesn't use the joysticks even for RPGs.

Persona 4 Golden, probably the best RPG and Vita game there is requires both joysticks.

Pay the money to get one that is in good order. The Vita is getting a lot of niche JRPGs this year, so is a great platform if that is mostly what you play.

Oh, and once you get your Vita, immediately get Persona 4 Golden for it.

Thank you all for the info. I suppose i'll have to suck it up and lay down the cash.
P4G was one of my main reasons for wanting the Vita, but can anyone suggest any other games that are currently out or coming out soon?
I'm very fond of Jrpgs and traditional rpgs.

Ys: Memories of Celceta
Soul Sacrifice (more action oriented)
Final Fantasy X and X-2 (upcoming re-release)
Atelier Totori Plus: The Adventurer of Arland
Atelier Meruru Plus: The Apprentice of Arland
Dragon's Crown

You might also want to check out Gravity Rush. It's not a JRPG but it's a great game.

Try to find one of those bundles that come with a free year of Playstation Plus. The Vita is amazing when you supplement it with a Plus subscription. Even then, they've been quietly but steadily releasing a lot of new games for it so it's not nearly as weak as it was when it launched.

Soul Sacrifice, Toukiden, Muramasa Rebirth, maybe god eater 2 if it comes, the fighting games, and almost any other psp game that you missed out on that could be played on vita.
Oh Tearaway was supposed to be good too

Closed as there's a more recently active PS Vita thread, which while it doesn't address the very specific joystick question, does cover game recommendations, which seems to have been a main focus here as well.
