To clear up the Confusion a bit I not-so-humbly offer this from the lolicon PSA thread.

Soldier Sangeria perhaps Lolicon IS feeding closet pedophilia. What's you're answer? if the words, ban, censor, sanctions etc. are included anywhere in your response I'm afraid then I will have to oppose that response firmly. Not because I'm a fan of loli-porn but because It's cartoons and we are getting into the issue of freedom of thought.

I may not like the thoughts of some tran-phobic sob. who gives me dirty looks on the subway. but as long as we both do whatever jobs we have and he doesn't take it to the physical. I have no right to impose my beliefs on him. distasteful as it may be I will defend the right of non-child molesters to think lascivious thoughts about children. Because that's still the better option than empowering some kind of thought police.

Oh god now we really ARE repeating the Lolicon PSA thread. I invite you to read it. 40 pages of should we, shouldn't we with shouts of
'lolicon aint bad!' from the bleachers.

I actually posted my same commentary on the other thread - why are there two threads like this existing since they're basically discussing the same thing? Can we possibly merge the threads?

No, I agree with you. I don't go the banning/censoring way, because there must always be freedom of thought. We do not want this to be 1984 now, do we? On the other hand, general society's newest way of thinking - let everyone do what they want, its their life!- seems to be too much sometimes. There has to be a balance.

Moving on....That (freedom of thought) is fine by me as long as people don't act on it. However, at the same time it seems to me as this type of thing becomes more accepted and available, the danger will slowly be seen as "more okay" and starting off with little things, become slowly more "acceptable". Others as well have noticed this in the anime/manga community, and it is creepy, disgusting and weird how some rush to the defense of those that hoard loli-porn, "sexy" child-figures and whatnot.

Those people that think lewd, disgusting thoughts about children are sickening and are pedophiles - but as they are not acting upon those same licentious thoughts...As much as I dislike them, it is still only in their mind, not part of their bodily actions. I personally do not think it is good mentally, and for the overall wellfare of people to get so engrossed in this sort of thing, and if it continues to spread, eventually society will be effected slowly but surely. Perhaps that is one of the reasons hardcore "otaku" in Japan are so looked down upon usually.

Just my two cents though.

I'm glad we agree.

Well one way we are dealing with things we find offensive is using our own freedom to say 'hey! that offends me. And this is why' It's always best to have logic and facts on one's side when doing this. but Freedom of expression is a two way street. You(rhetorical you) can't shout out

I like loli porn, nya nya

and then expect 'all the haters should shut up' No people who find loli-porn disgusting have the right to say so.

I do wonder why we have this dupe thread going too. btw... I really feel like a broken record. Slightly off topic but have you ever noticed how different forums have different rules? some hate 'dupe' threads, others hate reviving old threads. and will throw the word 'necro' at you for doing it.

Anyhow the way to keep ideas you don't like from spreading is to express your objection to them and as a rational, unemotionally tinged argument.

While I find pedophiles,... (I'm choosing my words carefully here)... repugnant and pitiable. I also believe it's a mental pathology, an illness that is induced on someone without their control or consent. That doesn't justify acting on it but does make at little easier to accept that those that don't act on it, need not be burned at the stake. (or whatever it is people think is appropriate for child molesters. these people are not they) And to be fair, we all have times when It requires will over instinct/base desire to be socially acceptable in this world. I don't romance where I work. No matter how cute a new intern might be. I have relatives over 18 whose beauty I envy but the idea of one of my male relatives getting it on with them is.. EWWWWWW! but that's a different taboo. one that pedophiles might feel as well. (I honestly don't know. but I imagine the popular view of pedophiles as rampaging molesters in waiting is as in correct as the belief that Gays are all superficial promiscuous and only into one night stands.)

but I have to agree. I don't think it's 'okay' but it might be better to have it out there, and have rational discussions about it and why we think it's wrong than attempt to cover people's eyes and say. Your mind is not capable of dealing with these thoughts.

PS
and honestly since we're talking about a niche cartoon (ie drawings) and the people we may or may not hold in contempt for liking them. (I've got nothing against Loli-afficiandos personally) we all probably have bigger fish to fry. personally when it comes to media influencing the North American populace I'm way more worried about Rupert Murdock than ALL the Japanese ideas combined.

As long as you know the difference between 2d and real life than lolicon isnt necessarily a bad thing. I like lolis in anime, manga and video games, but that doesnt mean i like kids in real life( in this case i really dislike kids to be honest) theres something about lolicon thats different like its more..appealing but not in a wrong way? not the hardcore stuff that shows something with an underage character and much older older character, since its morally wrong, but the appealing part to me is the overall innocence and cuteness of the characters, i mean ive always loved anything cute!

When you say you 'like' lolis you seem to be saying you like their adorable moe-ness. like a cat fancier is entranced by the behaviour of kittens. not that you LIKE them as in dakamura and lots of tissues.

This is why I dislike the term loilicon in these conversations and prefer Loli-phile and Loli-afficiando.

Of course since I coined those terms myself you won't find them in any dictionary and your mileage may vary.

I applaud this distinction.

I've always though it's ok to be a lolicon as long as you aren't a rapist. You avoid real child pornography and real little girls then you are a normal person to me. We all have our own little fetishes and I don't think there's anything wrong with being naturally attracted to youthful people. Fap all you want but let's leave it at that.
