I think the first chapter of every manga should be free to read. That way people who currently arnt manga subs here at CR can give all the available manga CR has a test shot. If they end up liking it and want to read more, then they sub to get the later chapters.

I agree with this as it would give the audience a preview of what's to come with the story and enough interest to follow it all the way through.

Now with the most recent additions, I'm considering getting membership for manga in the future...

Im still holding off on the manga membership. Since a lot of manga they have are missing the starting chapters of the manga. I mean why pay for it when most of the manga is already 20+ or more chapters into the story with all the previous chapters not up.

So for now, I am waiting till they get the earlier chapters of the manga up before I sub for manga.

Be great if they could add some way to tell if you read a chapter or not and how much progress was made on the chapter. I mean they have it with the anime shows, so it shouldn't be to hard to adapt for the manga.

This should definitly be done. I think it would increase CrunchyRolls manga subs.

I would love to see some of the older and more artistic titles, such as Hitoshi Ashinano's Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou.

this would be the tipping point for me. I realize that I am outside Crunchyroll's manga demographic.

It's worth it since fan translators aren't professionals and screw up more than often. For the manga that Crunchyroll hasn't posted the older chapters such as Fairy Tail and Attack On Titan, it's probably because the manga is already being translated by a different company. I'd rather pay for manga than trusts it being free and illegal.

The service is really good. Now I wish I hadn't read the scanlations of Fairy Tail, because marathoning it through this would have been much better. I reckon I'll sign up once I've seen the anime for the series' I'm interested in (like Space Brothers, Nisekoi, Coppelion) I hope the library gets bigger, since I prefer this a lot over the scans.

I'm finding it incredibly frustrating how large chunks of series' that hadn't even been previously fan translated are missing. Chapters 24-32 of Shirogane no Nina and practically an entire volume of Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru.

Has there been any word at all regarding how Crunchyroll will be handling releases of back issues? You'd think for a project on this scale, they'd make sure to have everything translated before they release a series. This isn't very encouraging as someone who jumped on a manga-only subscription just to read the series' that seem to have incomplete translations.

They are actively filling in back catalog. Many of the series that are now up to date didn't start that way, and it did take several weeks (months n some cases) for it all to get filled in--so it's just a matter of a little patience waiting for the rest. It does seem that at least with the most recent additions they have listened to the feedback that many users would prefer them to start with chapter 1, and would rather they wait to be caught up before adding with the most recent chapters. I don't know if that's just a move that was especially suitable or easy to negotiate for the recent batch, or if it will be a practice they'll continue, but it seems promising.

Maybe I'm on of the few who had the manga service right when it came out. I was already reading some of Yamada and Fairy Tail (after the anime concluded). For me, the extra $4 is no big deal. Cut back on one fast food trip a month and there's the $4.

I remember in the beginning CR staff said to have patience and I didn't expect them to have as many as they do now at this current date, but I think it's worth it unless you really cannot part with $4. Disposable income might be the issue with some.

I'll wait until it matures in time like many have already said this service will be great much like the anime and drama offerings. I am impressed with how CR is expanding the business. Otaku life is serious business!!!!

DITTO TO BOTH!
But I think, based on the anime CR gets, we will not see many artistic titles ever.

I think it's good to sign up to encourage CR to license more manga but...

The manga reader app sucks. It just does.
