I'm not sure if I will, I use to want to, however I really sucks with computers, I probably won't have any idea how to use it.

XP on my lappy have been running fine for me, It havn't crapped on me yet, and I'm virus free for 2 years running now. So I don't see a reason for me to switch to Linux yet, although it does take up a large portion of my hard disk...

Whatever you do, don't switch to a Mac OS!

I work at a help desk/lab with the new Mac G5. I don't know what the f*** they were thinking. The thing looks gorgeous, but from the confusing interface to the inflexible software help, it pisses off everyone in our department, except the Mac fanboys(the 3 out of 18).

Oh, and to squash that stupid myth they do get viruses, especially if the user is stupid enough to open random files. And when they crash, THEY CRASH HARD! They give you a text message to shutdown at some random moment every week, and there goes your project! Their is no end program option, you are boned.

At least my piece of crap Windows sometimes recovered my data. You get "the rainbow wheel of death" and that's it! And wait till you try to eject your CD, first you don't know how, and then it spits your CD across the desk and onto the floor!

I wouldn't use these things if I got them free.

All they have going is those visuals, Garage Band and the iPod. That ain't enough.

lol it spits the CD out? so it doesn't have a tray for the CD?

linux>windows...yes...
however, a lot of companies just dont give a shit about linux, and dont make their programs compatable, and unless you know computers REALLY well, you wont get it to work.

altho as linux continues to grow, more and more devs are looking at it to possibly make games compatable for it.

Yeah, Microsoft OS do take up a lot of space, i use XP Media Center on my game/internet machine, and Linux for all the other media things I do. Heres a funny picture regarding computers:

Exactly. And the power button is hidden on the back and the 10 ports on the Mac work for only certain input devices. And the USB has some sort of underpower error, the USBs are on the back of the keyboard by the way. So you can't find them ever!

F*** YOU STEVE JOBS. You have accomplished what my 2000 HP Pavilion, Pentium 3, 63.5 MB RAM, Windows Millenium piece-of-crap computer, has failed to do. Make me loathe computers. Bill Gates has nothing on you.
I hope you are proud, you sick SOB.

You guys can complain all you want about Vista. The simple fact is it will include DX10 and 95% of the games and hardware will support only it. The Linux guys can continue to host servers and the Apple guys can edit movies, but I wanna play games. So it's Vista for me.

Btw: Mushroomjay..

-Millions of viruses
- None of my Windows PC's have ever been infected in the last 10 years.

-Spyware/Adware
- AD-Aware/Norton/Firefox stops that.

-Internet Explorer is always on it, no matter what
-I just use Firefox, having it there dos'nt hurt me or my PC in any way.

-over 600MB of RAM is in use no matter what. (UBUNTU is only 55MB)
-Not a problem to a gamer that has 4gigs of RAM

-one workspace
-Not working, gameing

-lag/constant slow-downs
-Never had that problem

-BSOD
-I havent seen one in years.

-More compatiable programs.
-True

when a new windows OS comes out, always wait a couple months [6 or 7] to buy it, that way theyll have most of the bugs smoothed out

Killar is right to some extrinet.

Linux is for Severs/Coders it holds some over windows with you know how to code pearl and are good at it and love to do it. Very custimizable compared to windows. No really hidden files by the company. Altough some of that is the draw back to new users useing it.

Vista is going to be the best so far of windows systems. They stealing everything they can from mac and linux and throwing it into vista. I mean if you seen screen shots you can tell what came from linux and mac.

As far as adware and virus goes. Windows is devopleing there system designed scaner. Dont know if it could be easyer to fool or makes it more diffcault to get them yet because vista hasnt came out yet.

In my opoin vista will be the best os since 98 because we all know that was the last good system for windows. The only problem with it might be for the os graphics they will draw too much ram to run. Which could or could not be a problem wtih systems moveing up to 4g ram max and dual procers.

Yep. You heard me. I hear it's going to be around $300 for that crappy OS. Just like ZUNE it's another one of MicroSoft's bad attempts to re-monopolize the computer market. Sure they have the games first, sadly, and lot's of other programs first.. But they get the viruses, thing's like that. Luckily for me, I've been avoiding MicroSoft products since Linux UBUNTU had been released.

Oh. To make the post more constructive:

For my birthday I had recived a personal computer, literally a personal notebook. I turned It on and I saw the Windows logo appear. I was like "ew." So I popped in my UBUNTU: Dapper Drake CD and installed that. I saw the box the notebook came in and it said it had a HD of 60GB. When Winblows XP was uninstalled and UBUNTU was in and working I looked at my remaining HD space A whopping 100.1GB was remaining. So, post deletion of Winblows I had earned myself a free 40GB of pron space.

Do yourself, your computer a favour. Switch to the smaller, faster, millions more efficient: Linux UBUNTU.

Oh, and don't buy winblows: VISTA.

Linux is always the best i have red hat n ubuntu. but not many people are used to it. I have vista, but i still prefer XP
