Pastel is the greatest romance manga of all time. Nothing says I love you more than the protagonist literally saying at least once in each chapter "I love Yuu" or some derivative of it.

155+ chapters and going strong.

It was great until they confessed. Now they are just stuck in relationship limbo.

Manga wise I haven't read any romance I've liked that much. Anime though is a toss up between ToraDora and Onegai Teacher for me.

There are far to many great romance manga to place one as "best", in my opinion. However, Girl Friends is pretty darned high on my list, and at the top of my "yuri romance" list.

Lovely Complex - This one is one of the finest romances I have run across. I rate it above Kare Kano for several reasons (some of them due to some of the later content in Kare Kano. I could have done without some of the events and story lines near the end. LovCom doesn't have anything that seems... icky, shall we say?

Girl Friends is amazing. Legit the only yuri manga I actually really like, since the rest are pretty much BS. Morinaga Milk is amazing.

Shoujo manga wise, my favourite is Akuma to Love Song. The heroine is unique, and she has the devil's tongue. She's intelligent, and intriguing... While her and Meguro's story is interesting, lovely, and beautifully written, it's not a particularly strong love or romance. Still, the story is certainly is one of my favourite told. I think this manga is kind of underrated.

I love Skip Beat! and Tokyo Crazy Paradise--SB's romance isn't the best, but the plot is really good, and Kyoko is one of my favourite heroines. It's definitely one of the more interesting shoujo manga, with more inAs for TCP, it's not very well drawn, and the humour is messy, and it's generally pretty messy--but man is it epic. And the back-to-back relationship between the main couple makes me really, really happy. :'3 I love couples that are able to stand at each other's side and fight together, rather than the heteronormative hero-protects-heroine crap.

Kare Kano, I consider an epic and a classic. It has its flaws--and while I personally loved the later volumes--oh god, I loved the volumes on Arima's past, I don't think it can be considered the best. When I think back on it, I can't really remember why they even loved each other.

Bakuman's main couple was excecuted really well, in my opinion. I usually hate the "pure love" types where the characters barely know anything about each other, but the truth is that they really suit each other, and are both on the same wavelength. Ohba wrote it really well.

I really, really enjoyed Lovely Complex--I've read the manga a million times over, I liked the anime, and kinda liked the live-action movie... Koizumi and Ootani are literally perfect for each other but they're not the best couple by a long mile. Ootani even forgot her birthday.

Nah, the best romance, in my opinion, is between Chigusa and Rakan from Silver Diamond. n qn Their love is so profoundly beautiful it makes my head spin. An immortal monster and his beautiful flame, entwined by fate. It's never cheesy, nor shoujo-sparkly, and you know exactly why they love each other.

Oh, and then there's No.6, of course. I haven't cried that hard in a very long time. The anime had me crying all over my dinner, hahaha... They saved each other. They're literally perfect for each other. It's beautifully written. I love the way Shion catches Nezumi off-guard. Shion's super cheesy, though--hahaaha--it often exasperates Nezumi because Shion's so offbeat. There's actual plot, too.

I didn't particularly care for Toradora, actually. I never understood how it transitioned from bromance to romance. Actually, it didn't make much sense to me, period. Might've been because of the translation--I'm not sure.

I do really like the couples that Narita Ryogho writes, though. They're all immensely interesting. Shinra and Celty have a really interesting dynamic. That scene where they

But that's "romance". Most of my favourite couples do not adhere to any conventional forms of true love. Ahahaha. @ u@)" Mostly really complicated, twisted, love/hate or hate/hate couples that are more... obsessed with each other, than whatnot... Hehe...

Love Hina

Classy, funny, adventurous, exciting, and all with no obnoxious drama factor. There is drama of course, but it's more bearable than say Toradora or Kimi no Iru Machi.

Oh, I should add Witch Craft Works. It is sweet as hell, when it isn't constant action and Kagari isn't in creepy obsessive mode. (I take that back, it is even cuter when she is in creepy obsessive mode!)

Okay, seriously....
KareKano is an amazing manga, not surprising that it's no very well known because it's a tad older, but I think as far as story line and character development, it's gotta be one of the best.
Toradora is good too, though. But basically it's pretty much any romance novel with the girl as a tsundere lmao. It's still one of the best romance series out there...

I would probably have to add Love so Life, and Strobe Edge too..
and Spice and Wolf, though... just because the light novel for Spice and Wolf is just amazing with the plot development. I'm only on Vol 7, so I got 10 left. Haha.

I had to read the thread just to see if anyone else thought of Maison Ikkoku. I'm glad I wasn't the only one -- I'm not usually into romance but it managed to make me really care about the characters, including the side characters, and to be truly funny at the same time.

Girl Friends is a great Yuri/Romance manga and how I wish they'd make an anime adaptation. I'm kind of surprised it hasn't since Girl Friends is really that good.

A huge favorite of mine is Ameiro Kouchakan Kandan or Chatting At The Amber Tea House (Light Drama, Slice of Life, Yuri). It is a very sweet and heart warming romantic story between a high school girl named Sarasa and Seriho, the proprietor of a newly opened Tea House, whom Sarasa works for. The art and story telling is wonderful and Sarasa... I love her fashion sense and mature disposition.

Seriho x Sarasa

In reality I have a lot of top favorites and all could be called best ever for different reasons so picking just one and saying it's the best of all time is impossible for me.

Toradora is one of those series that got so popular, it just kind of got everything.

It started as a Light Novel, a year later it got a Manga, a year later the Anime, a year later a Game, a couple years later an OVA... you get the idea.
