Like the description says, I keep running into problems playing videos on my ps4. They frequently stop, and I'll have to rewind to get them to keep going. I'm wondering if this might be due to running out of bandwidth. A lower resolution video normally plays much better on my computer, so I figure the same would work on the ps4. Why only crunchyroll has problems streaming hi def content seems like an open question across the forums.

I'm fine just taking the easy way out and accepting a lower quality video.

Is there a way to force a particular resolution like 480p?

In short, no. However, the app should detect your bandwidth and adjust the resolution accordingly, bu there may be a lower limit on how low it will go.

I always assumed that setting my video quality setting on the website would translate over to the apps, much like the language setting and mature setting. You can give it a try: https://www.crunchyroll.com/acct/?action=video I'd give the lowest quality a try and see if you can notice a quality difference.

Also, if you are running things wirelessly, try connecting directly with an Ethernet cable. It might help your speeds. Good luck!

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I'm already using a wired ethernet connection to my 50mbps cable connection, and my default resolution on the link you posted was already SD. Netflix and youtube can play 1080p with no problems so it's a little puzzling why cr is any different.

Edit: It also seems like it's playing 1080p. Everything looks great until it stops playing!

Sorry the web setting didn't help. FYI, the PS3 app is known to have a limit of 720p and I believe the PS4 app is same one, so that's probably what you're seeing. Other people have mentioned changing/resetting their DNS as resolving their issues, so that's the only thing left I can think of to try for you. Hope you can get your issue resolved!

I have the same problem. Sometimes the stream will stop and I have to rewind for it to start again. It happens at least 3 times. It never drops in quality either. Running 24mbps/4mbps with a 40mbps/5mbps cap. So it's definitely not my connection when other streaming services have no issues.

Not currently, but I'll see if it is something we can have added in a future update.

Both the ps3/ps4 app automatically streams in 720p no matter what connection you have, don't believe those people that tell you it adjust to your connection. No it does not, I had to upgrade my internet in order to get the app working on both ps3 and 4. If you have attleast 5mb down you should have no problems with the app.

Now that we are seeing data caps from ISPs, the ability to manually set a lower resolution is a great feature to have for these apps. I've got a new HD TV and my data volume has more than tripled due to auto adjustments to higher quality. There have been no changes to our viewing habits. It is the increase in quality that is nearly pushing us over the cap.

The services that allow me to stream lower quality to save on bandwidth and still maintain my current viewing habits are going to be the ones that keep my business longer term.
