But why can't they just make their things work and be done with it? Even if they had to completely rewrite all code that has to do with gifting membership, they could finish it in some weeks.

Come on, gifting membership isn't such a big deal, and I cannot think of a problem that couldn't be fixed in a day or two of coding, so what is the problem? Are you waiting for somebody to sign the paper to make it happen? Or are custommers just not that high on crunchyroll's priority list?

If it were as simple as you make it sound, most developers would be out of a job. Same way if the shop could just make my car always work, auto mechanics would be out of a job. Unfortunately the reality is not so simple, and things are often much more complex than they seem. If everything really was easy, Hulu would stop crashing my Roku, but alas.

We're a relatively small company, and besides maintaining millions of user accounts, we're also creating, updating and bug-fixing more than a dozen apps. We're doing what we can, in an order that takes time-required and user experience into account.

People use Gift Memberships as a quick way to test whether stolen card numbers are valid. They're an easy entry point into determining the validity of a card before going nuts all over the internet.

Gifting directly from a users page changed when we moved Gift Memberships to the store. There is an open ticket to bring back this functionality.

We're looking at Guest Passes as well and how we can revamp that system.

EDIT: As of 10 AM Gift Memberships are available again.

That is clever. Wouldn't that mean that anything in the crunchyroll store that has a digital delivery system is subject to the same thing?

Anywho, thank to the engineers for the fix for me.

Bjaker, you are the most very best! Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this happen. I love giving away memberships and I was so very sad when it stopped working. Now I am all smiles

Have gift memberships become unavailable again?

Or are there certain times for it to work?

I rarely give my actual credit card numbers whenever another service like PayPal's available.

I understand that fraud is a legitimate concern. But for this issue not to be resolved for almost 8 months AND for there not to be status updates for when it goes down in this era ...

Any status update would be very much appreciated.

Last I heard is that they were working again, and the page is there for them. Did you try to buy one and it gave you an error?

No. I have previously gifted a couple of people accounts. I am attempting to renew their premium access as gifts.

The gift links in the automated messages from the site and in their account profiles do not work. They take me to the store, where an "Unable to gift memberships at this time." error appears.

Find any normal (i.e., non-premium) account and try clicking on the "Send Gift to <username>" link. It will display this error.

Maybe a bug? Have you tried going through the "Gift Memberships" link at the bottom of every page?

Still getting the same error.

If I go through the link at the bottom, it asks for the person's name and email address. I can certainly enter that, but how do I know it won't force the recepient to create a new profile?

Why isn't the option to gift directly through their account working?

I would suggest reporting it through the /contact form, if you haven't already.

I wish I could remember for certain how the gift membership worked, whether it is applied directly to an account, or if it's a link that has to be followed or a code to enter to activate. If it's the latter two, you would be able to simply share the address or code with your friend via a PM, but that wouldn't work with that first delivery method.

I feel like that option to gift directly to user has been broken forever, and I've no idea what the plans are for fixing it.

However, I have used the other method which the link at the bottom of page gives, where you supply the email address and name. This merely results in them getting a message with a code that they can activate on their account. In fact, if you are concerned about it, or don't know the name/email address you can even use your own name and email, then once you get the code, PM it to the intended recipient.

... Looks like I broke the site.

Lorreen, thank you for the suggestion. I was attempting to use this method.

However, the site now gives me an error on check out.
