Though I prefer railgun I'm rather surprised index II aired over 3 years ago. I have not seen index 2 because Funimation sucks with releasing shows in a timely manner. Is there still novel material left to adapt?

Seriously. Why does Japan hate money? They make a series, it sells really well, then they wait for the fanbase to lose interest before making the sequel? I'm sure they have any reasons but if anyone could enlighten me that would be great.

Is there novel material left to adapt? Hahahahaha, Index II didn't even hit the half way mark for the current amount of novels not to mention its ongoing. Index III would be a really smart idea (even if I have mixed feelings about the first two adaptations) not only do the Index novels sell really well (like 15x what is considered to be good for a LN to sell.... per volume) but Index III would hit the chunk of the series where Kamachi took his writing up a notch and the plot starts to really come together.

The thing is there is currently plenty of hype for the series so JC Staff probably doesn't feel like it needs to give new energy. Railgun S and the Index movie came out last year and both did quite well, not to mention the current arc that the novels are on has been generating quite a bit of hype and receiving a lot of praise right now (seriously right after the last volume came out the amount of sheer hype from the fans was through the roof, I should know... I was part of that hype train).

As for DxD III.... it'll happen only a matter of when.

I am not sure how many novels seasons 1 & 2 covered, however, there are 30 Index novels so far and I think it's still going.

I have a hard time getting interested in Railgun. The reason for that is, I was already experiencing that world vicariously through Toma, and to me Misaka was just one of Toma's harem. So a series in that world without Toma, basically feels like a series in that world without me lol.

I've seen Railgun 1 and I thought it was pretty good, haven't seen Railgun 2 though.

I think the problem with these types of IPs as a whole, is their fanbase is almost entirely made up of horny men in their teens and twenties lol. So in the end the success of the show ends up being the girls. Strike the Blood is the anime that has noticed that fact and exploits it to its fullest. StB has a very Index premise, but in the end the show just ends up like 85% fan service and chicks.

Too busy distracted by the PLOT to notice there is a plot?

Unless I forgot something from the first series, Koneko is now the only original character of Rias' group missing a backstory, isn't she?

that she is. hell, even the vampire trap got backstory, and he was only just added at the end of season 2. Koneko is seriously underdeveloped... loli pun not intended.

Well DxD season 3 is most likely to happen! Sales very good like the 1st season - popularity ! It's matter of time! That end picture with the quote " SEE YOU LATER" means a lot too!

You have to understand how anime in Japan is done.
First of all A production committee fronts all the money for the project.
Then once it's made they shop it to the various networks,
Then once it is airing they do the Home Video / licensing and they really only make profit on the Home Video and licensing front. It's the main reason why Anime is so expensive in Japan. Usually a title has to break over 6k home video sales in Japan for a title to be even considered for a sequel or the production committee may just back out on doing a sequel. Even if it does break that magical sales barrier it's not a guarantee that the production committee will front the money for a new season.

Compared to America where the networks will front a lot of the shows cost in preproduction, makes it less of a risk for the producers to do a show.

So basicly u mean that even if the sales are more than 6k ( for example DxD has until now without the last volume an average number of 9.1 k copies) it's not sure that a sequel will be made? Well it seems a little strange, cause sales matter the most. I understand that they must be other criteria too, but except sales-popularity-material i can't think something else. Let's say maybe will-mood of the production in addition, rather than that nothing in mind! I hope that u are reffering to those you too! My personal Opinion as Anime-Manga-LN fan until now and from what i can understand -see is that sales comes first then popularity takes place and last the material that is available! After that any factor from will-mood-creator is available!

Closing this because it's been inactive a while, and there is indeed a third season imminent for Spring 2015. For discussion of the new season see: /forumtopic-854167/high-school-dxd-season-3
