Since shes into "Breaking Bad" id definitely suggest Death Note. The protagonists have many similar traits, and the plot is also similar in many ways.

Death Note, Attack on Titan, Angle Beats, Clannad, Baka to Test, Btooom, Blue Exorcist, Guilty Crown, Kore wa Zombie, Mirai Nikki, Shakugan no Shana, Toradora.
All of those would be good for first timers in my opinion. Not so much Mirai Nikki because it can get a bit weird but should still be watched earlyish.

I recommend starting her off with Any Studio Ghibli movie. If you want to watch a show then start off with one with no inappropriate content, so I guess something that you might feel comfortable watching in front of your parents so maybe... Sword art online, pandora hearts, or maybe a mahou shoujo anime like puella magi madoka magica, sailor moon, or Fantasista doll <---- these are all kind of girly but it might be a good starting point

well we're old enough to be able to watch just about anything to be honest so i'm not worried about it in that sense; i just don't want to watch something like nisemonogatari (or something along those lines) that might give her the wrong idea about anime as a whole. good suggestions though! i appreciate it!

you seem to be passionate about your hobby to actually own more series than me, do you really want to start the person near the top of anime when it will all be down hill from there? My second case wasn't specific for Steins; Gate or anything, but you have to consider it. Building up the greatness might be good (not saying to start them off with a D rated show, lol).

you know i never really thought about that aspect at all! interesting perspective! hmm...

yeah, to be honest death note is one of my top considerations at the moment due to her fondness of drama-type shows.

I actually think you should start off at the top of the "anime hill." You want to show the best anime has to offer.

For me, it then goes in waves. You watch one of the greats, who recover by watching some fluff, you watch something dark and thought-provoking, you watching a little more fluff, you go back to the greats.

But start with the best. That will always be the best way to hook someone.

It depends on what a person likes. If a person likes action, it would make sense to go for shounen titles like One Piece or Bleach. If the person doesn't mind something a little more laid back, I would say Natsume Yujin-Cho (Natsume's Book of Friends). If the person likes cats, Chi's Sweet Home or Poyopoyo. For comedies, Skip Beat made me laugh so hard and Gintama can do drama and comedy within minutes all within the same episode.

Anyway, the best thing to do is to ask what tickles that person's fancy and go from there. If you show a newbie an Anime that "clicks" you've created a new fan, which I think is a wonderful thing.

Dubbed- Steins;Gate, Angel Beats, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop (Series and Movie), Death Note, Code Geass, Durarara, Fate/Zero.
All of them are story driven anime with, great animation, and fantastic dubs. If I show someone who's into mature tv shows an anime for the first time, it's these.
