Rape isn't, though. Jokes about rape are just insensitive and ignorant.

It depends on if you believe if they actually condone rape or not. If it does, then obviously it's not a joke.

No it's not, rape jokes in general are just painful.

Then clearly you have been wronged something awful.

The same can be said for racism, murder, sexism, fat shaming, animal cruelty, abortion, child abuse, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, yada yada yada....

Stop putting your preferred issue over other things.

Funny jokes will always be funny to people who have a sense of humor and an open-mind.

If you want to live your entire life with a stick up your ass, that's on you.
I, on the other hand, prefer to have a few well-needed laughs every once in a while.

Judging on that I'm guessing it was an intentional joke. Honestly I think anything can be funny. I hate when people say 'don't laugh' it's like saying 'don't cough'. It isn't something you have any control over. People don't often laugh for the sake of looking like insensitive arseholes, they laugh because they don't have control over what they find funny. It's why I hated it in classrooms if someone did something stupid and you laughed and the teacher said 'don't laugh, you'll just encourage him'. I'm not laughing because I choose too, I'm laughing because it's legitimately funny. Do you think when people go to see comedians they simply choose whether or not to laugh? No, they do it because what the person did or said is funny, regardless of how insensitive or cruel it is.

No, I have a sense of humor. I laugh at things that are funny--meant to be light-hearted. Making a funny joke out of a serious situation like rape isn't funny. Tell me, what is so funny about the act of being forced onto against your will and being violated? I mean, think about it. Why do you think so many people find rape jokes unfunny? Because rape is a serious topic, along with racism, sexism, etc., etc. It's just insensitive. Do you think people who were raped think rape jokes are funny? What if you got raped? Would you still think rape jokes are funny? You could, but I wouldn't see that happening.
I mean, take something that you feel really strong about, or against, or insecure about. Now just imagine a lot of people making jokes about it. And every time you feel the need to speak up, they tell you to get over it, or that you have a stick up your as. There are things that just cross the line.

Yeah, I Agree same with racist jokes. It`s like any other cruel joke. It`s still offensive to tell a fat joke while a fat person is behind you. Or telling a racist joke with that race behind you. Even if it`s not pointed towards you.

There are plenty of things that piss me off. I ignore them rather than sitting there and trying to force random strangers to cater to my feelings. If you're hanging around friends who bring up the subject knowing you find it uncomfortable you need to find better friends.

You can't go through life trying to change something every time you're offended.

It's not like I go around telling people not to make rape jokes. Even if I hear someone around me say a rape joke, I don't really say anything, because I know chances are they won't learn. Honestly, when my friends make rape jokes I don't say anything either, unless it's so bad and disgusting I have to say something. I just don't laugh. I'm not going to be the person to tell every person that this and that isn't funny, because that would just be a waste of time on both sides. Just I hope they know better and realize what they're saying.

What if I got raped....

First off, are you implying that the only way I can sympathize is IF I experience it? Second, how do you know that I have not been raped before? Is it because I don't agree with your views? *shakes head* Your sudden assumptions about my background irks me just a bit. I have many things I feel strongly about and believe it or not, sexual abuse and rape are some of them. But you see, I have enough sense in me to know that sometimes jokes are just jokes. If everyone is having fun and laughing together and not having any malicious thoughts or intentions, then who are you to tell them they are wrong? Who are you to mount a crusade against people who are just letting off steam? Whether they're joking about rape or some black guy or how their mother used to beat the shit out of them when they were young, sometimes people are just trying to unwind and have fun and have some laughs. Unless they are attacking you in particular or intentionally trying to make fun of someone and their ordeal, I don't see why anyone should tell them off.

Of course, there are people who make tasteless jokes that are not even the slightest bit funny and there are also those who intentionally take a stab at other people with the sole intention of hurting them. It's then that someone should speak up and correct them.

Finally, I think you're deluded into thinking that rape victims in general are fragile and easily hurt. I suggest you rethink that. It's a disservice to them and a total insult to their will and their strength of character. Rape victims are survivors. They don't need you to fight their battles for them.

You are doing the same exact thing to me and assuming that I haven't been raped. How do you know I haven't been raped? And so what if I haven't? A person doesn't need to be raped to know that it's wrong. Honestly, I don't think we'll ever come to a stand still so I'm just going to cease from this discussion.

So shall I because this has obviously become a contest of who's the rape victim and that's a discussion I do not wish to participate in.

Just because someone laughs at something doesn't automatically mean they condone it or think that's it's ok. It just means that they find some humor in it. There is, after all, a genre called dark humor.

It's funny how you're quick to assume something about other people who don't agree with your views and yet object to having people come up with their own assumptions about you.

P.S. to this entire thread: I wonder how many people who said that rape jokes are insensitive and ignorant were once dancing along and/or singing along to Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke. Perhaps you should listen to the lyrics carefully.
