I have just gotten past the sasuke retrieval arc where the sand siblings help them I am up to them searching for a bikochu bug or something could I just skip to part 2 will I get to part 2 and not understand shit it seems like these episodes aren't important I read somewhere they were just thrown in the there so the manga could catch up as the anime was going to surpass it or are the eps like 150-222 still important?

Which filler episodes do you think are worth watching and which should be skipped? Did you watch them or skip them?

From what I gather, the original run of Naruto is almost exclusively filler for the remainder of the series. There's a bit of canon plot stuff thrown in here and there but up until the last handful of episodes, which I think go back to canon, its all filler. Don't take my word as law though as its only what I've heard. I think I'm stopped somewhere around episode 170 which is still filler.

The rather infamous "Filler Arc" of Naruto! That went on for like, 2 or 3 years didn't it?

Yeah, you can jump right to Shippuden and you'll miss ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Some of the filler episodes are rather fun however, I suggest you glance over and watch the ones that seem interesting to you. I believe the last 5 or so actually are important, and involve Naruto leaving for training and such.

I remember a few rather decent mini-arc's featuring the less seen characters, specifically Hinata fighting a giant bug....for some reason. That was a cool set of episodes to me. But they're discardable like the movies tend to be.

Man, just thinking about those filler episodes bring me back! I stopped following Naruto right after the first Filler-arc of Shippuden around episode 60 or so, I was just fed up at the time. I'll pick it back up eventually, but for now....

I remember Naruto transformed into Ino and peeing off a rooftop(she caught him, and was horrified).....stupidest scene ever.
I remember Sakura finding a cockroach in Naruto's room..and beating the shit out of him.
I remember Hinata kicking some ass in her own episode/arc
Some kinda Samurai from the Wild west showed up, for no real reason.
An old terrorist attacks the village, and everybody teams up to take him down.
I remember something about a "Star Village" which is twice as stupid as it sounds, but I loved the imagery of Naruto crushing some stone-guy's chest in...that is the scene I see of when I think of Naruto, and it shouldn't be.
Garaa also got himself his own filler episodes! I remember one in which he actually procured a love interest.. an underage love interest, BUT SHE WAS INTERESTED IN HIM!
And they had plenty of excuses to animate action, no story or plot constraints'er nutin.
OH yeah! The curry episodes! Lee, Neji, and Naruto team up to stop some kinda Thundergod dude....again. They're rewarded with the spiciest curry ever as a reward, which has so much alcohol they get Lee drunk again, which they use as an excuse to see Drunken fighting again, how could I not like that?

But yeah, you can totally skip them, unless you want the honor of saying "yeah, I saw the filler...yeah, that shit was wack yo, but remember when Shino was drugged and spent an entire episode laughing his ass off? Stupidest plot ever right?"

Don't feel bad about watching 5-Minutes of the episode and backing out! Several filler were astronomically bad. Like Naruto trying to save some kinda old clay cup...and something about delivering a letter. They went crazy with their wild ideas.

If I would have been watching Naruto back when the fillers(150-220) started I'd porbably have thrown the anime aside. But I never watched Naruto until this year and I've watched every episode. They're fine to watch if you just blow right through them and do a couple marathons. I actually began to really like when Naruto came back to the Hidden Leaf to get a new mission. They're fun to watch!

It's too bad that crunchyroll is such a badly made app and when I skip to season 6 the screen goes blank and I have to turn my ps3 off and back on!!

This person is like, really smart. You should listen to them.

Besides, do you really want to catch up faster? What good would that do you? Take your time man, take it slow.

I agree. I marathoned all of Naruto, and a very large portion of Naruto Shippuden, and have found it a lot more boring and annoying to watch the filler week by week than as part of a marathon--though there were some parts that were pretty grueling, and if I'd had a handy list like the one Sharb8 shared, I probably would have skipped ahead (at the time I didn't know how far to skip and didn't want to miss any of the "real" story)

I don't have a clear memory of most of the filler, but of what I do recall I'd say the ones that happened after the Pain arc, where it was just killing time against a background of reconstruction, were among my least favorite (these were also ones I was watching week by week). But, even though it was really stupid, I enjoyed the zany episode 230 of Shippuden, and there are a few others that are fun.

I think the real problem is that it gets pretty boring after a lot of filler, because they are so episodic, and it's so much more satisfying to watch episodes that move the story forward, and where you can see true character development, rather than seeing even your favorite characters do stuff--but not reall change at all.

All of them.

I don't consider "this is what happened in the past"-episodes as fillers, though.

Regardless of how careful you're on which fillers you skip you're bound to miss some little bits of plot, backstory, etc.
