Why do most people buy so many games on Steam but never play most of them?
Posted 3/6/14
most of my games i got as part of a bundle =\
it's a result of seeing a game i like, paying around $10 instead of normal price for it, and ending up with 3-6 other games i could care less about xD

nowadays though, ever since my friends sent me back my vita (that i left in japan when i studied abroad), it's been back-to-back otome
cuz i otaku like that

yeah i get bundles too, i have over 1000 games from bundles and if i were to sell my steam account, using a calculator, i would end up with like around 6,000 dollars U.S currency, and i have 600 GB(gigabytes of games) most of it is not installed or even fully downloaded, i have only less than 100 GB installed

I have about 100 games in my steam account right now. Most of them are from impulse buys, humble bundles, and of course, steam sales. I typically play co-operative games, so a lot of my games that are single player I've yet to touch. Like Skyrim. I still haven't touched it because I have games to play with my buddies.

Of course, with so many Vita/3DS games coming out this year, I have to find time to play them. Because this year is pretty much the year of the mobile console. I can't get enough of Bravely Default.

Then again, my PS3 is dying for attention too... I still need to beat The Guided Fate and Atelier Ayesha.

And then with Dark Souls II coming out in a few days, as well as Atlier Escha and Logy... Conception II and Demon Gaze, Mind Zero, Disgaea 4: A promise revisited, and let's not forget Danganronpa 2 (I've already beat the first one,) Project Diva F 2nd... I still need to get to the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, which is just sitting on my bookshelf. And then I need to start Mugen Souls so that I'm ready for Z in May... Crap, I really do have a lot of games that I need to beat. Thank god I have a break from classes soon, spring break will be a blessing to my backlog.

I have about 13 brought games and 4 free games on stream right now. I don't play a lot of games.
I spent most of time watching an anime. I have finished Pokemon Y and almost finished Rune Factory 4.

I think it's because they often come out with affordable game bundles, and dirt cheap seasonal sales. That's why I end up purchasing so many steam games anyway.

there are super sales that happen on steam and other vendore(humblebundle) where you can get things dirt cheap. So if you are like me, that can be damn near impossible to pass up 9 games for 2.50...........plus some are really addicted to seeing the library grow.. I know afew of those

I think you pointed to the main reason in your post. It is hard to turn down a game that looks good when it is %75 off. While ten or twenty dollars feels like real money, taking a chance on something when it is five or less feels like nothing.

And hey, I'll eventually get around to playing all those Steam games! (yeah, right)

I agree with that, except I have no allusions to being able to ever get to my 750+ steam games.

way back when i was addicted to TF2, sometimes i'd buy games because they had item unlocks and the game looked relatively interesting, i usually gave it a day and most of the time (except for like skyrim and a few others) it turned out to be something i didn't enjoy

but having about like 300+ games on my acct, i got a majority of those games through game series bundle sales or through humble indie bundle
i don't really play indie games but i think it's a nice way to support charities, indie game developers, and the people that coordinate it on the site.

but yeah i think gamefly seems like a great alternative if you just want to play a game, beat it and send it out
because unless it's a game you're going to invest a lot of time in like an MMO, it's most likely going to be something you'll pass up after you beat it or get all the unlocks

edit: also like probably 2 years ago or so i thought steam was a flawless platform and i heavily hated origin. i liked having games that i may have already owned that went down in price to be bought on steam so i could just execute it as my main game hub instead of having it's folders about my D drive
if it gets too filled i don't want to play hide and go seek with my computer in order to delete the game
steam has a way of making things just easy

i don't like having to alt tab to check my skype messages, just easy to make it my side companion in game, i also think the placement for where the chat notifications show up are placed well and even if not you can disable them easily and just add the tone

Some people are just more hardcore than others I guess. I have a TB on my PS3 and I have about 70 games downloaded most of them AAA ps3 games along with a 32gb Vita that is completely full with more games that I could download if I had more space and then there is my 3DS and that's a whole different beast lol. My back catalog could keep me busy for years.

Oh the Steam sales, why must you tempt me so. But in all seriousness before I knew it had roughly 109 games. I'm still working on playing most of them but a good portion of them are early access.

Hype is a real "jump-train factor".I don't listen to it much.

Things like fighting games I play when I feel like, because some I know to a considerable degree how to play and they don't offer much but nostalgia.I mean hey: Guilty Gear Isuka is on Steam and I bought it but haven't played it in a while,Cuz I've been stuck on (GG)Accent Core playing online. Isuka still brings back the fun times and I will play it again.. But if you get the point. I do actually play games I keep. There are just some I play more frequently.Times when I prepare to trade games,I usually look at all of my titles and ask myself if I'm going to be playing the game much. I'll usually trade it if I don't intend on playing a game. Difference being there is,there are some games that are important to me. So I keep them regardless of lack of play.
