Snow vision blurred out - the last moment she could remembered before collapsing into forever darkness was when she felt being carried. She was unconscious the whole time then.

She opened her eyes to find a young version of herself - playing happily in the woods by the Earl's mansion. She was laughing and smiling very happily. Snow looked at her intently. She couldn't recall how long ago since she last felt carefree and happy. She suddenly fell onto the ground - when in reality Shu threw her into the carriage. She stood up - without any wounds, and the scene changed. It was the day she will always remember - the day her freedom was snatched away forever. The late King came to her, telling her that her life was a fake - that she is the princess, his princess and that he will need her to affirm a certain relationship. He told her she must listen to him, and that she can't be free.

Snow watched the episode with hatred. As the episodes of her pathetic life passed before her face, her other persona - the negative her appeared and laughed.

"How do you feel, recalling the past?"

Snow bit her lips. She hated her negative part - but at the same time she wanted to be like her. Now that she didn't depend on medication to control her split personalities, she felt much stronger in accepting this as part of herself.

"Horrible", Snow replied. "Just what happen? Am I dreaming?"

Her other persona laughed. "He's just using you. You're a pawn, a puppet. Once a puppet, forever a puppet. Just listen to me and kill yourself. Don't change for a man who clearly doesn't love you".

Snow turned around to face the other her. She was ready to accept all of this personalities. Just then, she felt a great chill - and brought her back to reality. She was dripping wet as she looked at Shu, holding a basin.

"Are you feeling sore anywhere?" he asked with concern in his eyes.

His eyes traced the outline of her body as the wet dress fell flat on her curves. He felt a little light headed and decided to head to the bathroom to wash up first. The butler helped him into an adjoining room and the door closed silently on Snowphina.

In the next room, the butler undressed Shu and addressed his grazes.

"These look like a rough fight, young master."

Shu winced as the dirt were first removed from his wounds. "They were worth it. I managed to secure the deal," he said dreamily and fell back on the bed.

"Young master! you need to take a bath first!"

Unfortunately, Shu's consciousness was drifting away. He needed to rest. His blood will heal the wounds (and the butler knew) and he would meet his 'angel' again. Except that this time, he was alone in his meadows. The face of an angel was missing among the stars. The angel was not visiting him tonight.

Snowphina, a voice called out in Snow's room. Have you made up your mind?

Snow gave him a furious yet surprised stare in his eyes. She was dripping wet, her clothes were wet as well - revealing her curves which Shu clearly familiarised with. She didn't bother to answer him - and looked at him as both the butler and him disappeared into the next room.

Snow got out of the bed - in a rather shameful fall. She winced to the soreness of her body. She tried recalling what happened but jer memories stopped at the walk with Shu around the gothic town. She stood up in pain but she kept it low. She didn't want Shu to come bursting in and stumble upon her in embarrassing circumstances again. She looked around - there wasn't any dress she could change into.

So much for the lunch invitation , she thought, annoyed that she would have to wrap herself up in blanket as she put the dress to dry.

As she was about to undress herself, the familiar voice gave her a shock. She didn't expect for him to appear this soon. Just then, a pair of arms came hugging her waist from behind. It was the elf - disguise as Shu as usual.
Kissing her neck in a very erotic manner, the elf held her waist tighter.

"So...?" he asked. "I'm waiting for your answer"

Snow swallowed her saliva, she was surprised with the sudden visit. She thought for a while - it seemed okay to just follow the elf away now but if that so, Shu would not get anything. She hadn't see his happy smile either. She hadn't tell him that she was happy to be with him even if it was for such a short while and even if he doesn't love her. Will Shu remember her? Will Shu continue to hate her?

It was painful to love a man who in turns hated her - which she concluded out of the rumours she'd always heard of him, and his cold demeanour towards her. She didn't want to answer the elf yet - she had yet see him smile happily.

But he smiled today...you only wanted to see his smile. Something in her thoughts voiced out. Her heart ached at the thought of not seeing Shu anymore. Her tears tried to find its way out but Snow held them in.

Everything he did was for himself. He's just like every other suitor - he only craves for my status and title. He never love me..... even that kiss....was a fake, a show...... nothing more, Snow lied to herself - her tears breaking out now.

Snow turned a little to face the elf. She nodded unwillingly.

"What are my options?"

The elf changed his appearance again. Now, he looked like a saint clad in white robes and his long wavy hair fell over his bare chest.

"You can die in a month's time, relieving of your future pains and lend me you body," he spoke calmly with an angelic smile. "Or you can die now, and hopefully get reborn into a new person. If you have good karma, i can change your appearance and alter Shu's memory such that he will fall for you. Hard. in your next life."

The saint stretched out a smooth palm. "Are you ready?"

Outside, Shu was knocking on the door rather impatiently.

Snow looked at him in silence. Fears started to get to her. She slowly held out her hand, but stopped as her fear overwhelmed her. She paused and thought for a second - can she really die just like that? None of the options appeared to her. She surely did not want Shu to love her out of his own will nor lending the elf her body.

As she was thinking, a sudden knock on the door brought her senses back. They both of them looked at the door - as they heard Shu calling for Snow. The elf quickly grabbed Snow by her wrist.

"NO!!!" she shouted the as she pushed the elf away. She moved back abruptly - her actions so big that she tripped on her own steps - which resulted in her hitting against the window glass and fell off the second floor of the rented inn. She scream as fell.

She landed on the bushes - bruised. Aside from her beautiful face, the rest of her body were pierced with fragments of the window glasses. She looked up at the elf - who looked down at her with a slight surprise. Without much consideration she took off into the forest nearby - she didn't want the elf to catch her. She ran with all her heart until the view of the town disappeared behind the trees.

She tripped and fell a few times during the run. Wounds and bruises were added to her body - decorating her in a gruesome manner. Still soaking wet, she finally stopped - only to realise she's in the forbidden forest, lost.

Shu waited impatiently as his butler used his body to break the rickety door of Snow's room. With a last intake of breth, the door fell through with the butler stumbling in. Shu stepped swiftly over the debris and effortlessly lifted his butler to a wooden chair. The butler watched Shu examined the empty room wearily before the former stopped at a broken glass window. He intuitively looked for blood trails in the room and pieced together the events which occurred before.

"No one entered the room, yes?" Shu asked his weary butler.

The butler simply nodded.

"Then, it can only be an invisible opponent. Someone I know very well...Get me a lantern!"

The inn owner, who hurried upstairs to check on the ruckus, did not questioned his guest's eccentricity.

"It's late..." the butler protested but Shu crossed the room without a word.

Shu straddled his horse, which flicked its mane irritably at the wee hours of work. He strapped the lantern to a pitchfork and prodded his horse hard. The forest is partocular dangerous at night. And the new moon made the shadows creepier. he sincerely hoped she did not take a left turn to the arch.

The darkness seemed to drag time as Shu shone light over the fork ahead - the blood trail took the left turn. Anxious, the horse paced silently through the night.

Snow was all alone in the forest. She didn't bother to stop walking - she was all worn out and sleepy, but she can't take the risk to fall asleep. Not when she's alone in nowhere. She didn't want the elf to appear in her dreams, she didn't want to make a choice, not yet.

She winced to the pain she was feeling. Her body hurts from the bruises and cuts from the fall as well as the run. Her steps slowed down as her body weight got heavier for her weak stamina. She was scared and wanted to find her way out fast. She cried as she walked on - she was hoping Shu or the butler would notice her disappearance. She hoped they could send someone to find her.

As she was busy with her own prayers, she mistook a step and slipped down the cliff. She screamed on top of her lungs, she could hear her scream echoed throughout the silent trees. She thought she was dying but she opened her eyes to find that she, by herself held onto a branch of a tree.

Snpw looked down beneath her. It was pure darkness - it seemed to be bottomles. She looked around trying to find her way up but it was impossible for her to get herself up. It was only a matter of time when she lost her stamina and falls into the cliff.

"If I let go now.....", she talked to herself." Will I die a quick death? I wouldn't have to lend him my body nor have Shu ...."

She trailed off as she felt her fingers slipping off the branch

A soft chorus echoed from below. It was hauntingly familiar. The rhythmic sounds of cellos and flutes resounded from the depths below. It was enchanting. Snow began to feel light-headed and the thought of slipping did not sound too bad...

Shu dismounted his horse who paced the darkened grounds nervously. He smoothed the mane of his companion and whispered gently an incantation. It was never proven effective but the magic of Shu's voice calmed the horse's nerves. He looked at his destination. The arch was as menacing as ever even at a distance. The hole in front of the arch was closing.

That means she is in there...

Shu strolled cautiously on the accursed grounds while shouting hoarsely.

"Princess! Are you there?"

Snow opened her eyes. She thought she heard someone calling for her - it was a very familiar voice, but she couldn't tell who it was. She looked around. She was in a dimension where light ceases to exist and she was floating around. There was no gravity - no direction. Snow looked deep into the silent. After some time, she could hear soft chorus echoing throughout the space.

She was slowly losing her focus - her eyes were slowly closing. She could feel nothing but the cold from the soaking wet dress as well as the chill in this bottomless space. As she was losing her conscious, she suddenly remembered a warm hug from previous. She didn't know whose hug it belonged to - but it reminded of someone important to her.

Unconsciously she called out the name in a soft fading whisper: "Shu....."

The hole was almost sealed with new soil creeping over the opening, leaving a pin size shape black hole in the ground. Shu fell to his knees and scraped the grounds futilely,

"Snow," he called out, forgetting all formalities. "Close your mind! Those music is vile. Ye hear me? VILE! Pay no heed! You have to keep thinking of our world. The inn we were at! Think!"

Shu looked at the closing hole with every digging he did. The dilemma was slowly passing over, That was only one thing left to do. He rolled up his sleeves and bit his lower arm, close to his radial artery. Drops of rusty red blood dripped onto the grounds and decaying soil fell aprt to reveal the enlarging hole. Searing pain shot to his neck but Shu ignored it and moved back slowly to avoid falling into the widening hole.

"Snow! Are you there?"

Snow's eyes flung opened as she heard someone calling her name. She looked around - searching for the voice. The voice was slowly playing a melody in her heart - and it got stronger than the soft music echoing throughout the space. She continued to search around - time doesn't exist in this space.

Slowly a light appeared behind her. She turned, facing the light to find the source of the voice - asking her if she's there. The beautiful voice calling her name marked his existence in her heart. She reached out towards the light - her consciousness slowly coming back to her.

"Shu....", she called out - despite still pondering over who was Shu. "SHU!!!"

A strong grip pulled her out of the hell hole and the music stopped abruptly. Snow opened her eyes to find herself supported at the waist by a soiled clothed male underneath the starry skies. He lifted her up from the black grounds and stares hard into her eyes. She's face was covered in patches of mud and dead roots. He, on the other hand,was more worried about the well-being of his Princess.

"Thank seventh heavens," he breathed a sigh of relief as he let go of the Princess. He crouched down, panting hard. The mysterious hole in the ground had resealed and no trace of the struggle existed. The pealing bells from the symphony earlier still lingered in Snow's mind. The Prince stood up suddenly and dragged the princess painfully to his horse. He holstered her up and gave his horse a pat on the backside. The horse gratefully trotted off to the inn leaving a disheveled Shu behind. He had left her without a word or explanation!

Turning around slowly, he leaned his weight on one leg, his other feet tapping the ground impatiently. Shyly, the hole re-opened in the ground and Shu jumped in without hesitation. He fell timelessly, anger slowly dissipating.

"I know I have been a bad, bad girl," a soft female voice lamented.

The voice broke his tranquility. Shu sat up, rubbing his neck with his left wrist, The bite wound from earlier was gone and he found himself returning to the underground green room from earlier. A teenage girl came inro view, her face full of mocking regret. She was adorned in maroon clown robes, her face painted with a teardrop beneath her left eye.

"I still stand by the fact you should not have recruited her," the girl reached out to caress his swirly blond hair. "Me alone is sufficient to get you the throne. Don't you want me?"

"Flat-chested girls ain't my type."

Snow looked up from the horse towards Shu. She didn't want Shu to leave her - nor returning to the inn. She didn't want to be left alone - afraid the elf would come back to haunt her. She hadn't exactly come up with an answer for him. She pulled the horse to a stop. Despite not skillful, she had the enough knowledge to ride the horse. She winced at the wounds and bruises - they were not healing. The spell cast on her had worn out. Feeling sore, she got down of the horse and slowly walked towards the huge lake in the center of the forbidden forest,

The forest was calm with silence. The lake reflected off the full moon of the night. Snow stumbled onto the edge of the lake - shivering from the cold. Her body temperature was rising. She had been in her wet clothes for too long - the untreated wounds and bruises caused her condition to worsen faster.

Fighting the condition she was now, she held out her hand to scoop some water up from the lake. She wanted to wash the wounds and bloods away from her body. The horse came to her - as it heard her crying silently to the pain as she washed the wounds on her left arm. It was trying to comfort her - and Snow smiled at it as she patted it.

"That's so thoughtful of you", she said - her vision slowly blurring out as her fever got more serious.

Shu's butler was waiting by the inn's main door with warm blankets. Twilight was settling in. His master was gone for too long and he dreaded his next move. Waking the innkeeper once more, the butler set off by another horse to the black forest. Despite his age, his hearing had yet ti deteriorate and he strained to hear of any movements. The sleepy black horse snorted as the butler pulled its reins hard in the direction of the lake. Spotting a lone figure with his master's unmistakable horse, he set off in full gallop in their direction.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The clown girl glared and slapped Shu so hard the sound resounded painfully throughout the messy room.
"You haven't changed," the girl seethed with anger.
"Neither have you. Look at the state of this room. This is the future of our kingdom in the hands of Queen Rin," Shu replied in kind.
Another slap echoed in the otherwise silent room. Shu simply took the abuse like a gentleman. This unlikely clown was his childhood friend and lover. Such scenes occurred often.
"Is this what you like? Are you a masochist?" the clown raged on at the smirk on Shu's face.
"No, I am glad neither of us has changed,"Shu explained slowly, rubbing his swollen cheeks. "So, have you enough time to think over my request? I have let you see the Princess, after all. And after so much trouble you put us through..."
"Us? US?" the girl raised her voice deliriously, "The cold moody Raizier is capable of using collective noun now? What has that wimp done to you?"
Eyes flashing, Shu pulled the clown toward him by the hair. The girl screamed in pain and opposition.
"Never," he spoke in a dangerous tone. "Never insult me or my subjects. What I choose to use is none of your concern."
Pushing the clown girl hard on the floor, he looked down at her. The girl laughed nervously.
"Wipe that smirk off your face! With a single word from me, your family will crumple beyond oblivion," the girl threatened as she quickly stood up. "Are you sure you should not be castrating yourself before me?"
The former lovers stared daggers at the other. Shu was the first to break the silence. "Deal or no deal?" he asked boldly.
The girl was taken back. Then, a knowing smile spread across her face. "Soon, you will realise how much you need me. I will see you when our agreed time has come."
Shu left the room without another word. All he could think of now was to check on his princess and his four poster bed.
Snow was panting in heavy breaths then as she hang onto Shu's horse. It had been years since she last caught a fever - what more a high fever. She hadn't been falling sick since forever - her position so high in the monarch that she can't afford to fall sick. She suddenly remembered she had a solid reason to live on - she hadn't take over the throne yet. She hated her parents for bringing her up in such a manner - illegitimate caused her to hate herself as much as her parents, but she hated the Queen more. Only Snow and her fellow ministers - those loyal supporters who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the day Snow step up as the ruler, knew what the queen had been doing all these while. Possibly the late king knew as well.
Overwhelmed that she finally found a solid reason - aside from Shu to live on, she didn't notice the butler's presence beside her.
"My lady! Are you okay?" he was very worried to find Snow in such a sad situation. Snow simply looked at him, a little disappointed that it wasn't Shu who found her. Snow nodded - trying to ease the old man's worry but it was useless as she drifted into unconsciousness.
The butler, shocked, quickly wrap the princess with the warm blankets he brought along. Carrying the princess back to the inn, he kept glancing back, in hope for his master's fast return for the frail princess.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Back at the inn, the butler put the princess on her bed - placing a wet towel over her forehead. The princess was in need of change - he had a new set of dress ready for her, but there was no maids to change the gruesomely decorated princess out of her wet and torn dress. The butler simply wrapped the princess with more warm blankets as he prayed his young master could come back fast and think of a solution for the sick princess.

Her temperature was getting higher by the minute, her breathing rate increased rapidly. Snow was also feeling uncomfortable from the wounds that hurts her entire body. From time to time she oftens talked in her unconscious state.

"I .......the queen.......promise......papa", she mumbled - as if she recalled what she swore to the late King.
