I was able to watch it with a straight face when I was fourteen. In fact, I became a major fangirl for a while, and would listen to music from it for months.

I tried rewatching it around a year ago and became really horrified with the torture scenes and couldn't continue. ;-; You'd think it'd be the other way around...

I prefer the manga version. The Higurashi anime is filled with QUALITY.

Great series, I could watch an endless number of those 3-5 episode repetitions.

It's quite an interesting series seeing as how it starts (and continues for quite a while) and yet it ends up being one of my favorite tales of friendship.

It's hard to say I am a fan of it anymore, I saw it back in 2008. I would just call myself a Ryukishi07 more than anything. Though really the two that stood out where higurashi (anime) and umienko (vn). I never read the higurashi vn, I just didn't really see a reason why to. I am reading his latest work rose guns days, I haven't gotten very far but it doesn't seem to stand out as much as higu or umi.

Higurashi is a great show. The first 2 seasons tell a pretty complex story that will probably hurt your brain. Watch the first couple of arcs if you don't believe me.

Glad to see this topic. In rereading my favorite manga - the first one I had to go through this week was the Higurashi arcs that I own. I love the series. I'm sad for missing the anime purchase when it was cheap, the time I did order it there was a mix up with a certain popular online store and for the first time I didn't get my delivery. Instead of reordering I just forgot to get the anime sets =/.

I'm sure the show is great having loved the manga I own and sound novel. I don't think I'll ever buy it now though =(. By the replies I'm sure it lives up to the formats I've experienced, but I would need a great price now or a re-release.

I love Higurashi!! It's a shame that some people don't like it because the first season is confusing to them .

The first season is explained in the second season... Which.. has unfortunately only been licensed in Australia of all places.
Aussies are stealthily fighting back against the world's exclusives.

It's one of the few anime where torture, blood, and gore are shown in full view in the television broadcasts. I wish more anime like it and Jojo's would push the lines for the amount of violence acceptable on standard television, even if it's stuck in a late-night or premium television slot. We already know that fanservice is being pushed to its extremes with shows like Recently, My Sister is Unusual.

Higurashi is in my top ten fave. when it comes to anime.... even if the ending was a bit goofy.
