Yeah, I'd have to agree with that. It has it's moments, but I wish they did a better job of showing instead of telling. Still, I'll watch the revamp of Fate/Stay Night when that comes out.

It's actually a very basic and simple plot, the pacing is slow and the dialogue is uninteresting, I can't judge the series as shoe though because i haven't finished watching it.

My favorite recommendation, unless the person is a little bit slow, then I recommend Attack on titan lol.

Well, I kinda-sorta did. I saw Gurren Lagann first, out of boredom (and Pokemon about ten years before that), but it was mainly Clannad that convinced me that anime wasn't just immature "exotic" goofiness, and got me to try other things in the medium.

Attack on Titan wouldn't have worked for me; you don't need to be an anime fan to see how cliche that is (actually, I think being an anime fan makes it seem less cliche, because it's more Western than Eastern). Fullmetal Alchemist...maybe? The first episode of the original series was pretty horrifying, and Brotherhood's pilot was kinda cheesy. Death Note is basically a morbid cop show; instant turn-off.

It depends on the person, and how much of a show you think you can get them to watch. I certainly wouldn't recommend Madoka Magica to a newbie unless they were extremely patient and open-minded. But you have to be a bit careful what you use as a gateway series. A lot of people seem to permanently decide the first anime they see must be the best one ever, because it seemed new and amazing at the time, and judge every other anime they see by that impossible standard. At least, that's the only way I can explain why Gurren Lagann is still so popular...

You're not wrong but I kinda disagree at the same time. I mean Clannad was my first anime, and it's what got me into it. I think it's the best love story of all time and is my favorite. However recently I got a friend into anime, it wasn't planned but I was re watching Clannad at the time when he stopped by, and we ended up watching it together. However I'm pretty sure his favorite anime is Kill la Kill so the first anime is best certainly doesn't apply to everyone. I watched Gurren Lagann long after I got into anime, I had seen the first episode, went meh, and moved in. However after some friends told me to get my shit together and watch it, I did. Now it's in my top 5. I can guess from the way you talked about it you don't like it, and that's okay. It's weird on one hand I can see why you wouldn't like it it's pretty dumb, but on the other hand HOLY SHIT THAT WAS THE HYPEST SHIT and I actually thought the story and characters where really good.

You just need to recommend something suitable for their tastes...one size does not fit all
