YES! The site isn't really hard to navigate, if you are even remotely used to using the internet you will find everything pretty dang easy with a few moments of clicking. Asking for things to be "streamlined" (in my opinion is code word for 'dumbed down') is just further pushing the mediocrity that has spread accross multimedia as a whole. To sum this all up in one sentence, CR is great as is.

This applies CR and pretty much to everything, especially video games.

P.S. This should probably be under suggestions & feedback.

Currently there is no real way to directly search for another user. In fact when I search my own user name and look through the different search types my username doesn't come up at all. I have also had this issue looking up buddies. Having a way to look up people by username, like myanimelist has, is a matter of making a website easier to navigate and convenience. What a "smart" person running a website would do is make the website more user friendly. Why? It will attract more traffic and more traffic means membership. An easier site also means happier users who are more likely to refer the website to a friend.

The only dumb thing here would be to leave a site inconvenient to use.

It could be the fact that there's way too many ads on the streamed shows. There are other websites that provide free, no ad streaming. Also facebook and twitter are all very general websites where members aren't united by their love for a hobby (watching anime for example). None of the friends I hang out with in person actually use CR. All the buddies I currently have I attained through this website.

I really dont get why people are hating on what crunchyroll has become.

Change is bound to happen whether one likes it or not, and I personally like what crunchyroll has done with itself in the last couple of years. This is the place I come to watch anime, the news and forums are nice extars. If you don't like that crunchyroll has put more focus on the anime streaming than in the community no one is putting a gun to your head making you stay.

A general principle, but particularly applies to legitimate for-profit media streaming sites:

Fully inclusive community based forums/sites are fundamentally incompatible with direct revenue generation from the associated "products".

Too much public media risk particularly since this also exposes the partners providing the products for distribution. Therefore being conservative is the rule of the day.

Conflict of interest is another incompatibility given the need to support the broad interests (and the, uh, more "colorful" characters) in the community but at the same time, need to market/support specific products. That's the game of revenue.

Net of it, the only way to have "full" community support is through a site that's existence does not depend on direct revenue generation from said products. Indirect revenue is more flexible (ads, etc.,) but also has limits.

One site can't be all things, moral of the story.

Still, the suggestion of having a live chat during a livecast of a show would be service level differentiation. Just need to manage the risk of "fringe" elements using this as a trolling venue.
