Well, they certainly have a style but this one feels more like 2009 than Nisekoi.

I am in fact a SHAFT fan. I love ef - tale of memories, adore the TV Series of Madoka Magica though the movies aren't my favorite, and I love, Love, LOVE the whole Monogatari series. But it does feel like they don't have anything new to do, visually.

Might even have to go back further than 2009, that's the year Bakemonogatari aired and it easily beats out both Nisekoi and what we've seen of Mekaku City Actors combined, imo. Even if we're just talking art/visuals.

But anyway, I'm still on board to see what happens. I just hope they ditch the dichromatism.

And if I need to rehabilitate I've been saving Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko.

Kind of sad it wasn't better, but I'll keep watching. Shinbo's starting to piss me off though.

3/5, best part was in the ED.

Pretty much sums up my final reaction at the end. Visually inferior, but the real issue was, towards the middle I felt as if I was watching a lesser remake of Araragi, then at the end I had to do a double take on if I have already watched this exact episode 1 of something. I definitely over hyped my self and now I feel like punching myself. They really should have tossed this towards tuesday or monday, it took me 3 hours! to finish this, that's how back and forth I kept going back to replay it realizing "Oh I still have this up".

Is there some sort of theme of unoriginality or "cloning" or something in the manga / songs?

Because, besides what's already been noted about the repetitive visuals and character writing, the part where the Joker clone showed up was really, really annoying.....like, no longer trying to hide it's blatantly rehashing other things? But if there is a thematic reason for it, I mean there's better ways to pull it off, but at least it wouldn't feel so insulting....

That was cute/sweet/worth watching, but nothing really special outside of the artwork, but if I hadn't looked it up just now, I would have not even realized that it was Shaft. But then again, they did do Hidamari Sketch, so it makes sense to me now.

Ya putting it on Saturday this season was a total mistake.

And I agree, I was expecting more out of this. I'm not too familiar with Shaft's animes, the only other Shaft anime that I've watched/watching is Nisekoi, but I thought this was going to be much more enticing. But it was pretty subpar imo.

I'm liking it well enough. I do question though why it is a Saturday show.

Yeah, there are too many other shows that has my interest level higher on Saturday for it to have compete, especially with quite a few shows having somewhat of a decent to strong Episode 1 opening to pump me up for the next show, I felt nothing here, honestly next Saturday I might save this for a the maybe pile at 11 pm when I am utterly bored. Now I wont lie, I am harshly judging this from it just being episode 1 and nothing as really been set yet, but With my hype and then others adding it to me, I kind of have to be a bit cruel to it and prioritize it lower, since compared to the other episode 1's who have set a strong tone for interest in their series this was below the bar.

Am not even a mecha fan, well like it a bit but its a give and take relationship, and yet I went to captain earth midway while watching this, and EVEN then when I felt meh I stayed with CE before coming back, that is never good.

Episode 1
Disappointing, looks like Shaft was too preoccupied with Nisekoi to care enough to give this a good adaption.

Now,I'm a huge KagePro fan but this clearly wasn't that great/good.If that sounds harsh well it's not,I'm just stating the truth and not letting my like of the songs biasedly change my opinion on the anime.

After rewatching I noticed the animation wasn't as bad as it seemed on Niconico.Still kinda wish the artstyle was a little better though.Ene was kinda annoying tbh.Liked the OP by Jin.

So far so good, definitely getting a Monogatari vibe from the first episode. The characters are acting exactly how I'd thought they would. Let the seven day wait begin!

I totally agree with you. Next week it will definitely be one of the last shows I watch on Saturday. It just didn't intrigue me that much at all.

Personally, the re-using of character designs didn't bother me that much...I will agree that this isn't the best work SHAFT has produced in recent years, but I didn't find it to be unpleasant to watch or anything. As a child of the eighties, animation has to be astonishingly poor before it even affects my enjoyment of the show. And I thought that some of the visual flourishes, such as the dichromatic sequences toward the end of the episode, were very effective in setting the mood.

Story-wise...well, it was serviceable. Quite frankly, I didn't think the opening to the novel was all that good either; it really lacked a strong initial hook to it. In that respect, the anime did a solid job of maintaining that from the book; on the other hand...well, I think changing up the sequence of events might have served to give a better first episode. Just my personal opinion, but spending 15 minutes on wrecking a keyboard and going to a department store doesn't exactly seem like the best opening to a series.

(Out of curiosity, is this series intended to adapt the entire Kagerou Days story, or do we not know that?)

Still, Ene was pretty awesome; I can see how some people could find her annoying, but I liked it.

My expectations has been met, this is now my Cringeworthy of the season.

Bakemonogatari + Durararara + Mawaru Penguindrum + Sasami-san Ganbaranai + Yozakura Quartet = Mekaku City actors

100% Makes sense.
