Well that was pretty captivating! I wasn't tempted once to do anything other that watch what was on the screen for the entire duration.

It's looking like Mekakucity and JoJo might be the only new shows I stick with this season, but if first episodes are any indication, I will be completely satisfied if that's the case.

(I agree with others that it seems very like Araragi ... in Penguindrumland. This is a good thing. I am not disappointed at all by the animation or the story.

Well...i'm a little dissapointed to be honest. i only just discovered this series a couple months ago. i really liked the music and recently was able to read the manga and really enjoyed that too.
this kinda fell flat for me.
i found this first episode kinda boring. it wasn't till i saw the ending/opening sequence at the end that i got excited again about what this series could hold in future episodes. the overal design i'm not really fond of either. the manga to me read as "fantastic slice of life" while this is just surreal. can't say i like that design choice yet. anyway i could prob rant forever, but i'll leave it at that.
overall i'd say it's ok so far. looking forward to see what comes next.

To me the opening of the manga was just as vague and I feel Shaft did a good job at mimicking that in this medium. The 2nd episode should be a lot better and let everyone in on what is going on. They did change it slightly though from the manga anyway. I haven't gotten around to reading the LN. One thing they kinda left out is that he's a musical composer in the Manga but in this anime so far he seems to be just a anime loving NEET. Possibly to connect better with the audience.

Wow, I was totally looking forward to this, and now that it's finally here...
I don't have a clue whether or not this is even good because I know exactly what happens, when, and why. D:
I saw this story built up little by little over years, so as an anime, put into one flowing plot and not little bits and pieces, I don't have a clue how it looks to someone else.

It might just be because I'm not a terribly big SHAFT fan as well, but I felt like the graphics and sort of floaty, surreal story telling made this sort of confusing and anticlimatic. I know what's going on, but to a first time viewer, does Kano's presence or actions make any sense? D8???

I assume someone's already made a drinking game for all the Shaft-isms in this.

I have no clue what's going on, having no experience with Kagerou Days; but it was funny, and it seems like some surreal plot is going to take place. Should be interesting.

I liked this a lot. BTW the manga does a prolouge latrer so if its confusing it must follow the novels! I can wait for explanations!

It is really all tied together as with Ayano in Shintaro dreams along with Ene which I wont spoil !In fact a lot of them all have lnlks but later! From what I read it all makes sense!

How many volumes does the manga and novel version have? Do they follow the same story or are there notable differences (please put this under spoiler tags if you want to go in further detail btw)?

I loved the first episode because it was essentially a less brain draining experience of Monogatari. I was also satisfied because it seems to me like a less feminine version of Koyomi's group. Monogatari has a harem, and I like harems, but you gotta get some bro moments in there, ya dig?

I really hope your right because as of now, I find this show very underwhelming.

As much as i see the parallels to other shaft works, specifically Bakemonogatari, I still see tons of potential for this IP to become its own and hold its own against any of the other shaft works. Its hard to really tell from one episode however, from what I've seen and read outside of that, things become a bit more interesting as it progresses. If you look at other Shaft works from the past, 1 episode is not nearly enough to make a judgement on any of them simply because of how they tend to pace their anime. I don't think anyone will be able to accurately give this anime a "Yay!" or "Nay!" until they've seen at least 4-5 of the episodes. Still from one episode alone, i think the concepts have enough potential to be good.
