Synopsis

Yato is a minor god whose dream is to have a lot of followers worshipping him and praying to him. Unfortunately, his dream is far from coming true since he doesn't even have a single shrine dedicated to him. To make things worse, the only partner he had to help him solve people's problems, had just quit the job.

His godly existence and luck just might change when he stumbles upon Iki Hiyori and saves her life; a feat which also leaves her in quite a predicament so she is stuck with him until her problem gets resolved. Together with Hiyori and his new partner-weapon Yukine, Yato will do everything he can to gain fame, recognition and just maybe, one shrine dedicated to him, as well.

Idk how many people are watching the ongoing series right now but this has became one of my favorite manga recently. At first, I thought it would be just a generic piece of work judging on the premise but I really came to like the characters in particular Yato and Hiyori. Later on, I also started liking Yukine for his development after a certain incident that got him and the others into serious trouble.

The action is pretty decent, artwork is fluid, and back stories is relevant that ties the story together in a consistent way. The comedy is great too and there's no redundant fan service that gets in the way. Feel free to discuss Noragami here. The anime is ending soon but this manga continues with at least 40+ raw chapters and over half of them translated so far.

I love the manga and all of the characters! Although to be honest, I saw the manga several times, read the synopsis and didn't actually pick it up, cause it's not the usual genre I go for. Then I came across the anime. Definitely hooked right after. and since I couldn't wait for the anime to update, I started the reading the manga

I think what I like most about the manga is the unique characters and the spot on comedy (and yes, no excessive fan service lol) I'm glad Hiyori didn't turn out like the usual damsel in distress. The plot's good too, it's not amazing as it is sometimes predictable. But with so many mangas/animes now that's kind of expected. It's a good series nonetheless! I'm definitely looking forward to the manga's continuation :D

I too picked up the manga after starting to watch the anime and not wanting to wait to see what happens (though finding out that it will have an anime original ending spurred my decision to begin reading sooner).

At first it did sound like a quite generic plot line but the characters draw you in. They are all so intriguing and the ways that they interact with each other, both comedic and dramatic, keep you hooked. And I feel like there is a good balance between the action and more dialogue heavy scenes. Backstories and the like are woven into conversations in a pretty organic way so that it doesn't feel out of place or just like information was dumped on the reader.

I can't wait for the manga to update more so I can find out what happens next.

And since the posters above me mentioned their delight of no excessive fan service, I will as well. Hazzah!

Well you're two for two with me now Stark. Found Akame Ga Kill from your thread and enjoying it, just read the first two chapter for this and enjoyed it. And with Shiroibaraa and Aoi-123 saying there isn't excessive fan service, I feel like I can safely read this on breaks at work and not be constantly looking over my shoulder lol.

Is anyone keeping up with this manga as it is released? Anyone I can vent to about the agonizing cliffhanger it has left off at, and the fact that the only information to be found on when the next chapter will be released says that it will be a three month wait. Argh!

I love this manga! I've been reading it online, but I recently got the local comic book shop to order in the first volumes for me because I really enjoy this story. The plot at first seemed rather generic, but it builds up in a very interesting and somewhat unpredictable way (I say somewhat, because there are a lot of predictable elements, but every now and then, a wrench is thrown in the gears and I'm intrigued).
The characters really drew me in - they interact very well. I'm always looking forward to the next chapter release to see what kind of growth and development the characters and the plot experience. I'm especially fond of Hiyori, I think she's a very good heroine and I'm definitely looking forward to what kind of role she's going to continue to play in this story. I also think that Yato is a very well constructed character. He has elements of both a protagonist and an antagonist. Obviously, he's always striving to become a better person, but his background (somewhat Stockholm Syndrome-ish in regards to his father) causes him a lot of difficulty in growing - but he perseveres as his companions believe in him
and he continues to grow and become stronger.

I'm starting to become impatient for the next chapters!

I absolutely adore this manga. It was the first manga that ever really grabbed my attention, and I keep up with the releases every month. I own the first three volumes, and will keep throwing my money at it, because it really deserves it. I've always really liked supernatural/god type manga and anime, and this one gives me that element, but with a twist. I like that most of the Gods in this manga keep up with the times. They own cell phones, dress like school girls, keep up with the modern way of speaking. Every character is well developed and given back story as the plot moves. The art style is also fantastic, the panels really make you feel the panic, or the fighting, or the tension, or the comedy.

Yato is by far my favorite character. He was born as a god of calamity, and now does odd jobs for 5 yen in hopes of building his own shrine and becoming the number one god in Japan. Since he is a very old god who comes from a time of kill or be killed, there is no major need for him anymore, and since gods only stay alive if people remember him, he takes any job he can get, so people can remember him. Yato is two sides to one coin however. On one hand, he's naive, comical, and caring. On the other hand, he has a dark past that constantly haunts him, and sometimes the killer is woken in him again. He is simply an amazing character.

I really like how much the plot has been progressing in the latest chapters. For a while, it did lag a bit during the Bishamon arc, but I'm happy with where things are going, and will definitely read more. I am absolutely hooked. It's definitely worth a read.

Yes and yes. If you like the series you should buy the English publications just to show your support. The only drawback is that they come out really slowly.

That's good to hear! I've only seen the anime, but I REALLY, REALLY liked it. Don't mind waiting until later though. Don't have any space on my shelves anyway, so..

The anime is cool and I saw that first but I like the manga even better. It's my favorite title right now. Definitely recommend it.
