The plot of the first episode is so full of holes it's ridiculous. Main character being in the right place at exactly the right time for no reason at all, making decisions that no sane person would ever make, apparently able to pilot a highly advanced robot with no training (though this is common with many mecha). This is what you call deus ex machina.

While there is no continuity in the story so far, I enjoyed the first episode and will continue to watch.

lol Basically 90 percent of most mecha series.

You underestimate how illogical what happened was, compared to any other anime. Comedies do it all the time because they don't need to make sense, but this made no sense and was not a comedy.

Visually I liked this first episode. Story wise.....well that's where they lost me a bit. So the pink haired chick and blue hair guy are bad guys? That wasn't really made that clear to me. Hell once people started getting into mecha, it just became confusing as hell. Pretty to look, entertaining even, just very confusing.....

Well, it's true that most mecha shows follow a similar pattern. Personally, I was with it for all the first half. I can also understand how the guy would go back to the military base after seeing that rainbow. But then he gets teleported by a magical loli in front of a scientist after having a vision of a space mecha and he gets asked "are you a captain?" and he answers "I don't know but I have to stop that thing from space!" and there he goes LOL WUT. Yeah, that made even less sense than the average mecha pilot episode. I guess that, considering who's writing this show, there's going to be a huge amount of symbolism/metaphors of some kind, so I can cut it some slack - for now. Revolutionary Girl Utena's first episode didn't make much sense either on its own. But yeah, this could be great or a total trainwreck.

Oh trust me, I did not underestimate how illogical he was, I literally just looked at the screen and said to myself, "this is really happening, and of course nothing goes wrong...yup, why am I not surprised...AND Queue incoming B.S"...At this point I have been been so phased by its predecessors I have to turn my brain completely off, but don't get me wrong I still enjoy it and will continue to delve into to the show and see where this is going.

Episode 1
The animation in this is just absolutely fantastic. The mecha designs fucking amazing. And omg that transformation sequence eyegasmic.

The only thing thing that kinda bother me though was that he was able to magically pilot the mecha and was even allowed to use it by that one guy.

Also the fanservice was kinda out of place, especially that one girl shaking her boobs in the skin suit to control the mecha.

Either way thank you Bones, this is how you start a mecha anime.

I've been waiting for this anime! It's a giant robot show from the people who did Star Driver! One can only pray for attack name calling - god knows the giant robot anime scene's been poor of those lately!

I still have high hopes for this after the first episode.

Lets be honest, anyone who watches most mecha anime should be prepared for the cliche find the machine pilot is imediately thing. It happends alot. Yeah it would be incredible to have it so they pace it better, but it got straight to the point. We just have to hope that the time they saved from doing that will be made up by giving us a good story down the line.

Over all the show looks reallllly pretty and for now i can overlook the plot to see how things unfold from here.

EP 1 I got a Robotics Notes / Gunbuster feel for this anime! Also Stratos 4 anime which also hasTanegashima Island Besides the obvious Mecha genre!

It looks interesting and has a lot of potential. The Kill-T-Gang is the unique enemy.

I liked how his father's friend didn't realize that the kid was driving the mecha at first. Who else do you know has the potential to be a captain that you know is on that island at that time. If he's the mission director, I think the world might be doomed.

I wasn't blown away by the first episode but it wasn't bad. Plenty of cliche going on and some stuff that, for now anyways, seems kind of nonsensical but I'm sure most of it will get explained after the fact. Just wanting to get right into the action in the first episode was probably smart, you can explain the details as you go.

I'll keep watching. This could be a pretty good show, hard to say for certain based off the first episode.

Daichi reminds me a lot of Renton from Eureka Seven. They wear similar clothes, have hero fathers, have special objects a parent gave them, etc... Then there's the rainbow circle which reminds me of the seventh swell, plus of course the mechs and a mysterious girl. Heck, there were several scenes that looked almost identical in direction to E7's first episode; the father's grave, parent teacher meeting, command center peeps, chain link fence with restricted posted, mech interior holo screens, and so on. Eureka Seven definitely influenced this series, and that's a good thing because I love E7. I'm hyped up now.

A solid first episode. Bones of course did a brilliant job as always on the animation side. A lot of exposition in this episode but given it's a two cour (25 episodes) I believe than it would have plenty of time to flesh it out. Sure enough might not be doing anything revolutionary but I reckon it's going to be an excellent anime for sure (hopefully). Also that mech transformation sequence was GAR as all hell.

The multi-launch transformation docking sequence was also absolutely ridiculous. Should have crashed on every one of those 'dockings'. What purpose did they serve? Why not have the whole robot up there and just fire a capsule and transfer the pilot only? Wouldn't look nearly as cool? Gotcha... Visually cool, took up what felt like 3/4 of the episode, good thing the enemy didn't destroy Earth by the time it was finished... So, it looks super stupid but now that I have shut my brain off completely, it just might be entertaining. Might...
