Does Skype or Steam chat count? What about Gtalk? Anyone remember ICP?

Dear lord chats still exist? I thought everyone just used Facebook or Skype. Then gamers used voice chat things like Teamspeak, Ventrilo, or whatever a game just naturally came with.

I don't think I have set foot in a chat messenger since middle school maybe early high school. That was back when they were actually popular and all your friends in school would have them as well. Think I had like 100 or so friends at one point. 50+ would be active after school. Of course as Facebook came around that became more popular and less and less people started showing up in chats.

I still use Skype for long distance chats with relatives, or friends I made over in Germany, or friends that came here to the states and I became friends with them.

Also use Teamspeak alot for gaming purposes.

That's it.

I have Yahoo, Skype, Steam, MSN, AIM, ICQ, KIK, and WhatsApp. Total friends that I talk to on those: three.

Everybody else I speak to on Facebook.

Only for in-game buddies on MMOs I used to play. The term 'used' is very important as I don't play any MMOs anymore. Not enough time <\3

I use Google talk to talk to basically one person, use Kvirc to talk to a bunch of people, and use Skype to talk to the rest.

Well, I'm not really (never was) that social a person, so no. I do use skype to message my only current RL friend though, but that's it. For everything else I just send messages to my in-site friend using the site itself. (Which it's pretty much only CR and MAL)

As to the past, I've only had internet for the past 2 years or so, therefore I never even had the chance for trying those things even when they were still popular. T^T

I juggled MSN and Yahoo IM untill summer 2009 (I think) when I started using GTalk. (I had an AIM too but that one never really got any momentum so... meh). The activity on both of the former had largely dropped. In integrating myself into a new online community found that most of the users there that I talked to most all used GTalk and it's been that way ever since.

lets see... school community was MSN. a group of people trapped in way too many preconceived notions, (Anime is porn and whatnot), before the web 2.0 revolution that was social media, MSN messenger was the online gathering spot of choice for those who didn't actively take part in a world wide online community. My guess is they had largely moved to facebook... I did not follow.

Yahoo IM was for those who dared to be different. yahoo mail over hotmail sort of thing. and was more popular among those who took part in online communities more... though MSN still got some lot of activity, it seemed to have the image of being "conformist". Yahoo seemed to be the IM of choice for the people I talked to more regularly in MMOs and forums... well there was a lot you could get from a yahoo account more than others back then (I used to play yahoo games multiplayer a lot back then).

GTalk has largely just been for talking with online community members... because most of them refuse to use facebook. For a long time now the only place to use IM with offline friends for me has only been facebook... and I barely use it.. oh well, they were just as much trapped in their preconceived notions as ever anyway... ~sigh~
