About the anime: I love it, the animation is great and the characters are very easy to like. Kaori herself is an adorable character. Easily one of my favorites of the year and I'm looking forward to a moving story. I get the 50 first dates reference but I don't think it's fair or needed to compare the two. They are similar only in that a guy keeps trying to befriend or romance a girl who forgets him after a set period of time, that's it. I also read someone comparing Kaori to Banri from Golden Time and yes they both have memory loss but the characters and type of memory loss are completely different.

I agree with everything but the 50 First Dates line.

Everything always should be compared to 50 First Dates, in fact all Anime in general should be compared to Adam Sandler movies.

Is it like 50 First Dates? No? ok!

Yes? Well it better be better than 50 First Dates!

yeah, their are plenty of reasons she would remember or simply not have Math become affected.

But come on, family remembrance? That's totally cheating!

Cheating? You gotta do what you gotta do. Whoever is left standing at the end is the winner. Doesn't matter the method as long as it gets results. You can write the rules when you rule the world.

I just think it's more appropriate to compare One Week Friends to EF: A Tale of Memories instead of a goofy Adam Sandler movie.

But I would imagine it is totally possible to forgot emotion-based memories and remember logic-based ones such as math.

Reminds me of a novel I read. There was this guy who has a heart stroke and suffers amnesia after it. He basically forgets EVERY emotion-based thing in his life (up and including his family and his wife) and remembers all the logic-based stuff - and being him an academic, there's a whole lot of that. Mostly quotes from famous books, poetries and so on, he's a man of letters. Then his wife realizes he remembers also stuff from old comics he read as a child, and they decide to go through those, since they are more borderline, as they had a big part in forming his emotions as well.
Basically the whole thing is a setup for the author to unleash a TORRENT of nostalgia about Italian pop culture of the thirties, in fact .

There's a funny scene at the beginning though... it's been one week or so since the amnesia and he's in bed with his wife, and tries to approach her - and she refuses him by saying: "Hey, I love you and all, but seriously, I'd never want you to have sex with a woman you've only known for one week!" .

It's quite verbose really but I enjoyed it, also because it had plenty of interesting illustrations and tidbits of information about those times (he basically relives all of the 30s through comic books, bad adventure novels and music). Being Italian helps, you get the references better. It's called "The mysterious flame of Queen Loana", by Umberto Eco. It's not even close to being his best novel but definitely an interesting experiment.

Ef; A Tale of Memories is a great show.

Renji, I believe his name was, was an awesome guy.

The entire time I watched him do what he did, I shouted IF ADAM SANDLER CAN DO IT, SO CAN YOU MAN, GO WATERBOY GO! YOU CAN DO IT!

This too, will be compared to 50 First Dates. I expect waffles.

Sigh... I just... you know it's too soon to really compare or review anything anyway but even so I don't get it. EF is a fantastic series and One Week Friends is shaping up to be one as well so why do they have to be affiliated with this...

I really like the art, and I expect lots of cuteness to balance out the dramatic tension.

Episode 2

So now, Yuki is suggesting that Kaori keeps a diary of everything they do together, and it seems to be working. Or maybe not, but at least he isn't a complete stranger anymore every Monday. That was just a cute episode there that is well-constructed. This is definitely shaping up to be one of the season's best.

Yeah it addressed the thing everyone was saying for episode one, the easy solution. But it has its problems too. Anyway I really loved the episode, it was cute and I got close to getting misty eyed at the end of the episode. I'm glad it didn't go where I thought it might, and that it's not too predictable. This is still my favorite so far, really loving it. The OP and ED and art style are something else

The level of cuteness in this show is mind-blowing.

I was totally expecting her diary to be magically erased or her loosing the diary or something... so glad it didn't get predictable there.

There is cute, and then there is FREAKING CUTE, and this hits the latter. Great episode 2, again!
Honestly I hope the memory fiasco gets broken towards the end, not the exact but 3 or so episodes before so I can see a full fantastic build up of the couple.
