Isn't that similar to most anime studios with the exception of Shaft and Kyoto? Or is there something monumentally different?

I would say J.C. coined its expression because of Shakugan no shana and familiar zero. Which is particularly true with its longer running series. (of which those two are)

Kyoto animation gets rage as well. People dislike it because it is kyoto animation, though I believe it is fan-base induced rage.

Personally, I like Shaft the most out of the three and will give it a bit of bias, it does not have much fault. Although if I remember correctly, Shaft also had an expression.

Oh, jeeze, I have so much anime from winter I have to finish, I shouldn't even be thinking about spring anime right now BUT.......... THE URGE IS TOO STRONG, NEW ANIME IS JUST TOO EXCITING....... OTL

So! I'm looking forward to Black Bullet, Break Blade, Haikyuu!!, Kamigami no Asobi, Isshuukan Friends, Captain Earth, and Akuma no Riddle! And I'm going to watch Date A Live II because, well, I watched the first season, so I might as well watch the second...

I'm also kinda interested in Gokukoko no Brynhildr, Sidonia no Kishi, Hitsugi no Chaika, Fuun Ishin Dai Shogun (IT JUST LOOKS SO RIDICULOUS, I HAVE TO SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT), No Game No Life!, and Mekaku City Actors.

And then there's things I might give a try if I end up dropping a bunch of stuff, like Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san and Escha and Logy no Atelier...

So looking over the list, only Nisekoi and Irregular at Magic High School are must watch shows. I have already began the season with Majin Bone, and it's one and done. I am planning a lighter load this season than in the winter as the lineup just doesn't look as strong as the winter (of course, it had the benefit of having several good shows from the fall continuing, but here only Nisekoi continues).

Watching:
Nisekoi (Continuing from Winter)
Irregular at Magic High School

Very Interested In:
Selected Infected Wixoss
Is the Order a Rabbit?
Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san
Soul Eater Not!
Date A Live II
M3
Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara
Nanana's Buried Treasure

Will Try Out:
Riddle Story of Devil
Black Bullet
Blade and Soul
Captain Earth
Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou
Coffin Princess Chiaka
Haikyuu
Ping Pong
Mekaku City Actors
No Game, No Life
Magica Wars
Brynhildr in the Darkness
One Week Friends
Still World is Beautiful

Stick a Fork:
Majin Bone

I will be skipping the sequels for Mushishi, Fairy Tail, and Love Live since I have yet to complete the first season of these titles.

Seriously cutting down on my simulcasts this season, as I keep wasting time on series I would rather have skipped.
Date A Live 2 is the only sure thing, being a sequel to a show I am enjoying atm.

I will wait and see the buzz before I latch on to anything else. I'm not getting sucked in another Magical Warfare-esque debacle when I have so many interesting titles in my backlog.

You bring this up a lot.

I hear nothing but positive about:
Joshiraku (2012)
The Pet Girl of Sakurasou (2012)
Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S (2013)
Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko (2013)
Little Busters! (2012, 2013)
Golden Time (2013)
Witch Craft Works (2014)

Is there something off about J.C. Staff as a studio in terms of business practices?

Add Toradora! and Shakugan no Shana to that list, as well.

I actually don't know what the problem is. I just seem to read a lot of comments (not necessarily just here) that are like, "looks good, but it's J.C. Staff, so...."

I'm as mystified as you are, to be perfectly honest. J.C. Staff is a close second to BONES as my favorite studio.

Golden Time could have been done better, imo, but the rest of those that I have seen are solid. Absolute disasters by Madhouse and KyoAni in recent seasons, however, are making me question watching shows due to their pedigree. Shaft is the only exception, until they too let me down.

I have to add that Toradora is definitely the other big anime that they did before recent times. A lot of people love that.

In terms of recent anime from Fall anime season, Railgun S was the best anime I have ever seen, so I think J.C. staff has a lot of potential, but it unfortunately has different teams for its different anime and so sometimes the anime isn't that good depending on who's doing it...

Wasn't Happiness Charge a late winter anime? It started back in February.

Technically it's on the winter charts, but I really hate February anime launches. They're too late for good winter discussion, and they tend to get lost in the spring rollouts.
