well when I play Dark souls I listen to Machine head or static-X or anything heavy, shooters I listen to zeppelin, Pink Floyd, or Iron Maiden. My friend likes listening to Aqua's barbie girl on a loop when playing any shooter or multiplayer game, when he sings he gets better..... It's creepy

If I'm playing games like CS:GO, I won't listen to music simply for the sake of listening for footsteps and such.
These days I really only listen to music if I'm playing Path of Exile or Morrowind. It's generally just music I normally listen to. I've been listening to a lot of Amity Affliction while playing recently. Otherwise, I prefer to immerse myself in the game I'm playing - music and all.

Lucky I came across this thread, just this morning when I was playing cod I had my earphones playing under my headset (hurts after like 3 hours). I really don't care too much about playing competitively. For one it makes you angry, and you'll just be like the kids who scream and swear every time they die and it just isn't a good look. So you can definitely see my playlist reflecting that sort of "whatever" mentality. :-p
I was playing:
- After the Burial (metal? not too good on the genres)
- Lady Gaga (i'm a closet fan don't judge)
- Big Bang (kpop)
- Gazette (jrock)
- Tyler the Creator (contemporary... hip hop?)
- Reflections (djent )
- Animals as Leaders (same as below, but instrumental)
- Northlane (contemporary metal or something)
- Erra (same as above)
- Bring me the Horizon (metal)
- Parkway Drive (metal)

I frequent di.fm while playing any kind of RPG game once I've gotten tired if hearing the same music over and over again.

Metal or rock, generally.
And my tastes can be pretty diverse- both in style and geographical origin of bands involved. Be it Finland, Germany, Italy, Norway, Sweden, or China, Japan, Taiwan or Russia, for instance.

When I played laid back games or go on servers like MC, I usually just listen to some chill indie. Goddamn, is indie music good. It's not even American indie I listen to. K-indie and Swedish indie is also so damn good. Also, can't get enough techno.

I just mostly listen to the music from the game i'm playing.
If not I listen to my own itunes library which consists of mostly dubstep and rock.

Why would you need to listen to any other music besides the game theme?

Also, don't you people have vent or skype? Lol..

Don't talk to people, huh?

I usually just listen to the game's music, but if I'm grinding in an RPG for instance, I listen to metal (specifically melodic death metal and symphonic metal) and music from other game's OST's.

I follow the atypical path.. when I play any racing game 90% of the time Initial D has to be playing in the background.. its like an unwritten truth lol... When I'm playing an mmo with sparse music I'll listen to whatever I'm in the mood for at the time (which can be almost any genre tbh) 9 times out of 10 though probably something heavy or atmospheric to get me into it. I try to listen to the games soundtrack as much as possible.

I think most of the time the only real reason I change to my own music is if the game becomes too grindy, and the bgm just is lackluster and tired after 10 hours of it on repeat. I've found myself playing some Tales Of games or even Ni no Kuni where I was trying to do some endless chore that over played the bgm and I'm like.. Yeah this is getting old *puts on headphones*
