I went to my first comic convention this past weekend in Lexington Ky. There was so many people there to meet. From William Shatner to Veronica Taylor (she was really nice). Anyway the biggest issue I had was asking the girls there in cosplay if I could take their picture.....I was sweating bullets.

I had my picture taken with a Storm Trooper and he asked "Do you want to be arrested?" No I dont think so... Then he said "Get on your knees". Then I realized what he was asking me......I was hoping for some type of big adventure with a random Storm Trooper.

Also there was a lot of bootleg anime there, is this normal?

Then I had to get in with the furry fandom hehehe

Just a reminder to everyone on talking to cosplayers: Feel free to compliment the costume itself, accuracy, and choice of show/media the costume represents. Those compliments are appreciated by almost everybody.
But comments on body or vague "You look great/sexy/so hot" are almost always a bad idea to strangers. It's easily taken as creepy.

If you see a cosplayer that you think looks bad or does not fit the costume, STFU about it. They are probably a fan of the show, and are cosplaying it because they love the show or character. No need to trash talk, humiliate, or degrade them. They are doing it because they want to, not to be aesthetically pleasing to you.

And continue to be polite when asking for photos.
But if the cosplayer is sitting down and looks exhausted, ask for a photo later if possible. Costumes can be quite tiring, hot and uncomfortable. Making somebody get up for a picture right then when they were resting kinda sucks.

OP: Hope you make it to some anime cons also, not just comic cons!

Yeah telling them their sexy is creepy. I made sure to praise their cosplay and thank them for letting me take their picture and I asked if it was okay before shooting. Most of them were really excited that someone wanted their photo. I just have issues talking to any women. The fear of being rejected in front of so many was terrible. I really hope to attend a Anime Con at some point, then I would really be talking creepy to the cosplayers. lol

Even if a cosplayer is busy or cannot pose right then for a picture them "rejecting" a photo isn't rejecting you personally. Remember that when you ask for a photo. It's really not a big deal.

As far as issues, same here. I am very shy and self conscious. But in my many years of going to cons I have found the solution. Turn the tables.
Find a character that is popular with women and that you would look decent as. Cosplay it. Better yet, cosplay an outlandish shameless servicey version of that character.
Go to a con. When females run up to you asking if they can hug you, say "Yes."

So few guys bother to look good or cosplay in an attractive manner. Fewer still as a character that is really popular with females.
