Well that was a fascinating first episode. Yes there is cgi and for the most of the part I really dig expect for the characters in which is a bit ehh and well it's hard to differentiate the characters especially the female characters (but then again maybe that's the whole point). But other than that I love everything else. The gritty sci-fi premise is interesting and yes it's mech but hey it's different. From what I heard from people who has read the manga is that there's a high body count which could make this very interesting. Anyway will keep watching this.

Episode 2

Well, that got started pretty quickly. Did that Gauna resume Yamano's form? Looked like it to me but in a very bizarre fashion.

Anyways, Nagane seems to be center of attention, some in the right way, to others in the wrong way. I'm still curious to see his past though despite them talking about it for a bit as well as the topic relating to the Gauna. At the end of the episode, Yuhata is introduced. Hmm, interesting!

Character deaths in this show will be kinda pointless to me since their are only a plethora of clone look a likes. I have a hard time figuring out who is who.

Gritty-somewhat hard science is really cool. It's no Planetes or anything but it'll do me for now.

This show has become my favorite of the new season. I love the slow pacing, gritty realism, and the Gauna-so many unanswered questions about these. This show blows any other Mecha or science fiction anime that I've seen in recent years out of the water. I also love the OP, it fits the show perfectly. CGI always takes some getting used to, but I think it works in this one. Finally, a well-done, mature sci-fi anime with all the big, "Golden Age" of Science Fiction ideas. Sidonia no Kishi has epic written all over it.

Wider story universe connection:

The 18th generation was made by Kunato Development instead of Toha Heavy Industries.

In Blame! Killy finds what's left of Toha Heavy Industries and it's insane governing AI. In Biomega Toha Heavy Industries is a powerful organization on Earth during the apocalyptic events that bring these later stories about.

Hmm, Honestly very intrigued with this world and the story...I really hope it tries to be a bit more unique though, already attaching the harem-ness from what I can see, aye I like my harems but I dn't want it here, it would hurt my current intrigued view of the plot. Another thing, some one mentioned something along this lines, the creator of the show has works that can't really be animated, does this fall under it as well? Idk something feels off, this just doesn't seem like the medium for it, although there arent many top notch CGI shows, this shouldn't have been added to the list, it is what kept me away from it last week. but the story so far seems good enough to override my distrust of the animation.

There's something I'm waiting to see that I think should be in the next episode; I hope it's done well.

I'm trying to think how to explain it. Sidonia no Kishi is definitely Nihei's first foray into anime trope territory, before this his work was much more reminiscent of western sci-fi with lots of (actually really grounded, albeit never spelled out) science and small casts of adults. Most of the stories are centered on the world they inhabit and the events transpiring within it, while the characters are often grizzled, hardened professionals of varying description who don't chat much.

You can literally go through chapters of Blame! without there being any spoken dialogue.

Although there are occasional snarky fun bits:

And I've never seen him do fanservice before this series except for Abara, where it was used very sparingly:

In Blame! I think this scene is the most skin anyone ever shows:

That is, if Cibo even counts as having skin in the traditional sense of the word:

But here you've got teens, school, a harem, etc.; all your run-of-the-mill anime stuff. Even in the manga I thought it came across rather flat, I didn't get far into it. I figured it was Nihei trying for an anime adaptation, it's definitely new for him.

It did finally get this far though, so I'm at least glad for that.

Ah, thanks for the reply, this explains a lot . It didn't feel right, the inclusion of the teen antsy type tropes felt forced and awkward at most points as they came in, especially the upcoming harem I can see, for example the random moment the Third Gender Character felt jealous or angry? as she Saw Nage walking with the one of the main girls, That scene felt so off as if it did not belong in the story.
Well I guess I will keep up with the show for now. Also going to check out those Manga's you just showed, namely Blame!

Just be ready for a certain amount of... artistic evolution, I guess you could call it. Blame! was Nihei's first manga, so the art's a bit rough in the beginning (kind of like AoT). It ran in a monthly magazine so he spent several years on it.

It starts looking mostly like this:

And ends looking mostly like this:

I'd heartily recommend it though, it's the first manga I bought and I thoroughly enjoy it.

(Nihei studied architecture so the worlds he builds are usually very structurally themed and incredibly awesome.)

An example spread from an early chapter:

At first glance some may just pass it off as generic sci-fi anime. But it has a lot of concepts and I think the animation and story line is going nicely BTW the science in this is pretty much real or being thought OF NOW!

Yamano dudnt shake hands!

The ship cluster for faster speed and getaways. They are powered by Higgs Particles. CERN

Cross sexes or not the girls are quite stunning!

Episode 3

Hoshijiro looks great this episode!

Kunato on the other hand wasn't so great. His attitude towards the others is ugly. RIP Akai. The death flag was strong this episode already during that ocean date/tour.

Another good episode this week imo but felt just a little fast. I wanted to see Akai kick more ass. Crazy episode. Akai's squad really suffered big time there.
