I've brought it up before in that show's thread but my god, no.

Pardon my random intrusion here. But, I just started this anime - does it remain good throughout?

Terrible title change to SNAFU aside... no, it doesn't just remain good, it gets better and better! I was enjoying it but the last few episodes really sealed it for me. Wonderful stuff, great writing, characters, music, the end of the season really brought it home. Novel 9 comes out next month which means they already have I'd say half a season worth written. Perhaps season 2 in 2015? We can dream...

Yes, I agree completely. I think for Ghibli class stuff that is meant to play in most theaters around the US, with dubbed voices you can reverse the names but don't do that in subtitles. WE CAN HEAR YOU SPEAKING! Even people who can't understand Japanese can hear them say "Hanazawa Kana" and see "Kana Hanazawa" on the screen. Come on!

They could also hear that Sio didn't say Himmler this week... just Heinrich!!! Adding the completely wrong name that wasn't said is even worse... just the 2nd worst Nazi ever, right?

Do you like Hachiman and his personality? Because he IS the whole show. Like compared to him, the other characters might as well not be there. If you don't like him, it'll be hard going for you through the rest of the show. If you like him, this show will be a blast to watch. I found his dry and more pessimistic approach intriguing and gave the show a 9 out of 10 by the end of it because of him.

Also Hachiman x Totsuka

Well I like the other two characters too - do they not get development?

That made me do this: (O.o) quite literally... don't add stuff in that they aren't saying please.

If the title isn't the correct translation, then it's just dumb.
I can't remember any right now.

But what I hate the most is when translators change the names of characters in whatever they're translating.
Like the norwegian subs for Harry Potter, the 2 twins in those movies have completely diffrent names in norwegian :P
A name is the same no matter what language you speak. Luffy isn't Ruffy just because it's how they pronounce it :P
Though if a game is originally japanese, like Ni No Kuni, then the name Drippy is ok, since the japanese name for that character does mean Drippy xD Or maybe it was "Drop", yeah "Shizuku".

This, so much this. I love that pairing, just cause its so hilariously awkward (and cute too).

One of the few times

They do get developed and we learn more about them, but not to the same extent as Hachiman. The show is ultimately more focused on him than the girls.

Oh okay, then I'll keep watching. I was worried you meant they dont get developed. Personally I do like Hachiman. lol like his trick with the cookies. "Come back later and try my cookies" *later* "They aren't good" *about to throw away* "But they arent bad either" *stops him*

"They are your cookies, not mine."

His logic was funny. But cool.

This is a huuuuge pet peeve of mine. It is so irritating having to read a name one way while hearing it said differently; it really screws with my head. I know that there is one translator on CR (I can tell because the font is different) that switches the name order around and I have gone to fansubs because it annoys me so much. Please, just keep it the way it is. It's actually easier to understand that way.

For some reason, when I saw that title, I thought to myself
"change the title of an anime in the middle of a season"
Like One Piece becomes "Rubber Pirate man and his Jolly Crew"
Or Fate/Zero becomes "The late night Rider show, with Saber and Gilgamesh"

But it was all about changes of name by corporations
and character names....
and SNAFU....
I think they still don't agree on Aeris or Aerith....

Anyways, I'm okay with changing names as long as they don't change things that are actually important. A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet and all, so long as they aren't being too ridiculous about it.

I also hate it when companies change the names of characters to western names, they dont seem to do this anymore, but it pissed me off more than the title changes back then.

This makes me wonder if the original Pokemon anime would've still been as popular as it had been if Ash was Satoshi, Misty was Kasumi, Brock was Takeshi, etc

I can think of one show I honestly didn't expect to see a title change.

Kannazuki no Miko - Destiny of the Shrine Maiden

To this day, I don't get why they had to go with this.

Personally, I don't have a problem when companies do this to the point that it enrages me, but I do find it rather annoying as well as... unnecessary. I think that licensing an anime simply means having the right to distribute and provide accessibility through translation - whether it be dubbing or subtitles, and that a show should have as little changed as possible in order to preserve what the creators have made. I may think this way just because I see the title of a work to be a big part of what makes it itself, as well as something the original creators decided to call their work.

From what I've seen, those titles often have to be approved by the licensor in Japan (or are even provided by them), and I believe they often go with what sounds good to them.

If one needs further evidence of this, one only need look at anime that had English titles listed in their OP before the series was even licensed in the west.

Cases of "Why did they call it that?" cannot always be laid at the feet of the western company licensing the title.
