I often find myself wondering whether I should drop a show that may get better, or cut my losses early. For simulcasts, I'll usually just check the discussion threads a couple of weeks later, but they can be unreliable, time consuming, and littered with major spoilers. Plus, you're screwed if you're watching something that's not really being discussed. So, if you're thinking about dropping a show, but worried it'll get awesome right when you're done with it, ask people that already know. So, name the show, and whatever episode you're on. Some reasons on why you're dropping it would be nice too. Finally, I'll just throw out some thoughts and guidelines to keep in mind:

_____________________________________

-If you're responding, keep in mind that if you finished a show, and they didn't, then there's a good chance you liked it more than them to begin with anyway. "I liked it" is not a very good reason to keep watching for someone that hasn't liked it. "I liked it from the start, but the characters get a lot more interesting later" is more helpful.

-With that in mind, if you're asking whether to drop a show, let us know why you're thinking you want to drop it. It's hard to answer without knowing your tastes. Detailed questions generally get detailed answers, and vague questions get vague answers. To be sure, you should keep the detailed analysis to the discussion threads, but some general guidelines for your thoughts on the show would be good.

-You may have already realized this, but if you're asking whether you should keep watching a show, then, in some sense, you are asking what will happen. EVERY response will be a spoiler of some sort. Just keep that in mind before complaining about spoilers. In a way, this is one of the few threads were manga spoilers might be warranted (particularly for simulcasts). As always, use your best judgment when posting spoilers, but I'd suggest being slightly more lax on tagging things. "Shit gets real after episode 7" seems a bit spoilerish for most threads, but for this one, the person dropping the show may not watch it anyway, and they now know to give the show a chance up until episode 7. So, I'd suggest only tagging major spoilers, and keeping minor ones out. But again, just use good judgement (whatever that is).

-Also, if you're asking, try to refrain from giving a laundry list of all the shows you dropped for the season. Just pick a few at a time.

-Finally, this is not the place to complain about all the shows you hate, while listing all the reasons you're dropping some obviously terrible show. Keep it to the discussion threads.

So, on to my first post.

Hamatora (Episode 6) -- I had the hardest time dropping this one. The show has a ton of style, and I liked a lot of the characters, but for some reason the show just wasn't clicking for me. By episode 6, it seemed like the larger story was just getting going, but I was just getting sort of tired of it. I feel like shows with Seiji Kishi generally save the best for last, so I'm wondering whether the main plot is anything worth sticking around for.

Magical Warfare (Episode 6) -- Tried sticking around, because it seemed like the main plot might be interesting, but it took so long to get going, and it felt a bit too Soap Opera-ish.

The main plot has been incredibly slow getting to the point. It still pretty much insists on sticking to its episodic nature, which has been frustrating for me personally. I'm going to finish it out, but I don't expect it be be anything higher than a 5/10 when all is said and done. If you like the style enough and you like the characters, I'd say you'd at least be satisfied (though not super fulfilled) by finishing it out.

EDIT: Oh yeah. As someone said people, episode 7 will probably be the benchmark for you. If you like it, you'll probably be hooked in for good; if not, you'll probably drop it.

Like Hamatora, they're taking their time getting to the point of the story. The writing is pretty shoddy all the way through and the characters are about as bland and unsympathetic as they come. I don't think you'd be missing out on ANYTHING if you drop it now. (And that was me holding back on what I really think about this show).

I'd suggest watching the next episode, after that you could probably for sure say if you wanted to drop it at that point. Or maybe not. But I recommend watching that one - it's emotional and the ending on that one has a big impact on the plot, in my opinion. But you will have to find out what it is yourself if this episode rekindles your interest!

But as for overall plot... I have no idea how it will turn out or whether or not I will like it to the end. If I'm being honest, I really did feel like this anime wasn't for me in the beginning, but after getting to know the characters more, it kind of grows on you.

This thread could be very useful. I think the mods should pin (or sticky?) this thread.

I agree for the most part, but I felt that the past few episodes have been slightly less episodic as the main plot progresses and things start coming together. I'm not a big fan of the episodic format, but I've enjoyed Hamatora quite a bit. like I said in the seasonal rankings thread, it's hard for me to remember the last time a villain made me wish for their death this much.

if there's anything I can say is my major problem with this anime is some of the secondary characters really lack in the development, but the main cast is pretty solid for the most part.

Hamatora - ummm it gets "better" in a sense but it still feels like filler no matter how much they try to tie every case back into the main plot of the show

Magical Warfare - why am I still watching this every week? lol ok seriously though, it doesn't get better. The fight scenes do get somewhat better but you will still to feel like the episodes are being done in the wrong order, characters are still pretty much 1 dimensional, every one except the bad guys and a few good guys are overpowered beyond belief, Kurumi is the Orihime of the show and Mui just seems to be there for blushing shenanigans as well.

Magical Warfare seems to be unanimously ugh so don't bother with that and Hamatora is ehh so you can manage.

That just made complete sense.

There is a notion that I keep behind my head.

"Only those who finish a show can complain about it."

So... I have never come across this the idea of: "dropping a show." It has always been I either watch or I do not.

ok, my list for this season:

Buddy Complex (7 episodes): I dropped this one because... well, it was so typical and generic that it almost hurt to watch. I really want a new Gundam, and I was hoping this would at least fill the void.

Nisekoi (5 episodes): this show started out decently enough, but by the time I got to episode 5, the magic had just worn off. I felt nothing but deja vu all over the place, and not in a good way.

Sakura Trick (2 episodes): it was cute... but it was slow and somewhat boring....

Wizard Barristers (5 episodes): I wanted to like it, but there wasn't enough action/comedy, and there was too much courtroom drama.

Chuunibyou 2 (4 episodes): I really wanted to like this one, seeing how much I loved the first season, but.. this just felt like another typical KyoAni moeblob, where the first season had an interesting story and drama.

I don't recommend dropping Wizard Barristers. Out of that list it's the best one to follow. Not sure if you have watche dthe last 2-3 episodes but there's hardly any courtroom drama anymore.

Nisekoi is mediocre. I watch it when i'm bored. Sakura Trick is just downright terrible. It seems to focus on just the kissing scenes more than the romantic build up. This is for those who get turned on by girl on girl action in my opinion. Nothing wrong with that, but this just exaggerates on the kissing. Dropped it after 4-5 episodes.

Chu2 2, just watch for the comedy. The story is non-existent anymore compared to season 1.

I dropped Sakura Trick at Episode 2 as well. The writing was terrible. I'm down with the subject matter, but did the script have to be so dumb and dull? Yeesh...

Should I continue Acchi Kocchi? I've only watched the first episode, but it already seems boring and predictable.
