After almost 2 years to develop the app how did you release it without it stopping the screen from going to sleep? It literally took me 45 seconds to realize that this is going to be a problem. No touch screen support either, just a straight (broken) port of the PS3 app. Not sure what I expected but I expected more than this.

This....x1000. I mean, I'm really happy and everything that it FINALLY released on the Vita...but seriously 2 years in the making and this is the best they came up w/?? They took 2 freakin' years just to release some half-assed PS3 shrunken-down port to the Vita. I mean, at least if it had touchscreen support I would've been cool w/ the port-over more. As it stands, it just look like they did a lazy-ass 'oh let's just get this damn thing out so people can quite bugging us....' kinda job to it.

Like I said, not that I'm not glad to see it now on the Vita, but like you stated I, for one, truly did expect them to a put a bit more effort into this being an endeavor that announced over 2 years ago--they had about that long to get a more suitable Vita version put together. Here's to hoping it will get a future update to improve on some these 'quirks'.

Will this work with the 3g? I remember reading how Netflix wouldn't work without wi-fi.

Just wondering but considering how many vitas have been sold in comparison to something like the 3DS, why the Vita? Just wondering.

Per http://www.vgchartz.com/analysis/platform_totals/:

Nintendo 3DS = 43.5 million
Vita = 7.76 million

Although CR has never confirmed nor denied (and I don't expect them to), I suspect that putting out a Vita app was a condition of getting on the PS3.

Aside from the possibility that Nintendo isn't as receptive to third party video apps as some would like to believe, there is also the fact that both screens on the 3DS have a vertical resolution of only 240 pixels, while the Vita has a 960x544 screen.

Further hampering the 3DS for modern anime is the fact that even the top screen is a 15:9 aspect ration, not the 16:9 of the Vita or modern anime. This means that one would have black bars cutting into the already low 240 pixel vertical resolution for most shows.

There is also a considerable deficit in the other hardware specs of the 3DS vs. the Vita:
http://www.nowgamer.com/features/1141172/ps_vita_vs_nintendo_3ds_vs_iphone_4s_specs_showdown.html

Unless the 3DS GPU lacks hardware h.264 decoding, the hardware spec on the it (aside from the screen) that would most likely make a video app difficult is the meager amount of RAM.

Well I definitely can't argue that, plus I wouldn't be too surprised on that being the reason the reason that they use the Vita, thanks for that. I had a feeling there was a good reason(s), I was just wondering what it could have been. Either way Nintendo needs to quit beating 3rd parties that want to get on their systems as much as they do, not to say quality control is a bad thing.

Just set up a US playstation network account. Buy another memory card and go here http://www.destructoid.com/how-to-use-ps-vita-with-more-than-one-psn-account-218688.phtml follow instructions. It can be a pain in the ass just to forewarn you though. I have a US and JP PSN account on 2 memory cards already.

What sucks though if im watching anime on it that the ps vita screen dims and theres no option to turn that off so its really annoying having to keep touching the screen a lot

If the people are right about the system update, you can now set the screen time-out to 30 minutes for the Vita (that is independent of the app). Also don't forget the back touchscreen, resting a finger against could well trick the Vita into staying out of time out.

I can't run the Crunchyroll app as my PS Vita is connected to the Japan PSN Store but I have the update and yes you can set the overall system automatic standby mode time to 30 minutes now (1, 3, 5, 10 or 30 minutes).

However, the back touch screen only cancels the standby mode IF the current app is looking for it. If the current app does not use the rear touch screen then touching it doesn't cancel the screen dimming or the switch to standby mode.

Just relaying what someone upthread said kept the screen dimming off ... I wouldn't know whether it was an actual use report or someone speculating.
