I agree with the rest. If you asked this question last summer I would have told you fairy tail, hunter x hunter and naruto. However, just shy of a year myself I can look back and say I am watching things that I never would have. Don't sale yourself short there are a lot of animes in other categories that just might catch your eye. I have about 12 regular shows that I watch and if you asked me a year ago I would have told you I would never ever watch some of those shows now I can't get enough of it.

Strike the blood
When it starts again RWBY

Ah those too Strike the Blood is a lot of fun along with Log Horizon(OP is the only one I watch every episode it's awesome)

Try looking for the anime you see everyone talking about. Doesn't matter if it's from this season or not just look around groups on Facebook or see what the forums on here and FUNi are full of. "Legendary Anime" are great for starters such as FMA which is probably the perfect anime for newcomers. Gurren Lagann has the largest thing you'll ever see in your life and will keep you wanting more. Haruhi Suzumiya confuses the hell out of people yet everyone loves it.

Tip: Hold off on Lucky Star and Outbreak Company until you've seen a lot of anime. They make millions of references to a huge amount of anime.

Looks like you haven't seen Hunter x hunter 2011, go watch it.
Also, Noragami is something anyone can like

If your looking for something emotional, go for Clannad, Angel beats or Ano hana

You should definitely try Zetsuen no tempest, or how Crunchyroll has it Blast of Tempest. It is a great anime, the animation is amazing, the plot is easy to follow. It has really great fighting scenes while also having a good sense of humor.

At long last, I have completed my guide to introducing first-timers to anime!

No long will I suffer to remember what I've written in the past!

Thus, iblessall's Guide to Introducing First-Timers to Anime

Now, technically, this guide is designed for people trying to bring new watchers into the anime fold, but I'll stand by every series on this list as good show for someone fairly new to the scene, as well.

Welcome to the community & enjoy!

EDIT:
And listen to this guy!

Omg no to Fairy Tale for a newbie....that will turn them off so fast, they would need to watch 15 plus episode to get into the the mind set of watching anime...If it cant capture them in 5 or less episode you might F the newbie off from anime...Same thing almost happened to me, thank god I thought better later on.
