Since the first thread was closed in September of 2012 (226 pages long--a Mod said to feel free to create a new one), I'd like to continue and add new shows/movies since then.

Criteria are simple: any anime (or manga, if you wish) where characters (or random people) are brutally murdered in various ways (i.e. decapitations, mutilations, explosions, etc).

I'll start with my #1:

Genocyber (1993) It's an OAV series and I swear it felt like the longer you watched it, the more you wondered how the creator could kill random people in some of the of the most horrific ways possible.

#2. Berserk (1995) (both manga and anime)

While it's full of gory moments, the anime PALES in comparison to the manga (although the new movies are fairly close). Hell, the first three chapters of manga set the stage for the rest of it (and if you've been following the whole thing, it only gets MORE gory and violent as you read it).

3. Psycho Pass (2012) (what happens when people get shot by the Dominator handgun? Get a mop and a bucket)

4. BTOOOOOM!!! (2012) (People throw experimental grenades at each other, go figure!) The manga's much more gory than the anime by far.

5. Elfen Lied (2004) (never watched it, but the old post had it consistently listed as one of the bloodiest ever)

6. Claymore (2007) (Again, the manga is WAY more gory than the anime; although the anime does a fairly good job)

7. Hellsing (1997)

8. Blood+ and Blood-C (2005 and 2011)

9. Ninja Scroll (1993)

10. Pale Rider (Blassreiter) (2008) or anything GONZO makes that has a serious tone.

Absolutely. That's extremely bloody with a large dose of insanity tossed in.

Without question, Berserk. Can't go three minutes without somebody getting hacked to pieces. While I haven't seen it yet, I hear that Shigurui one-ups it considering that the folks at Funi had a hard trying to find something for their trailers. Hellsing Ultimate is also pretty bloody as well.

I remember one scene in Shigurui where a woman gets her nipple sliced off by some old dude's fingernail. Then, he proceeds to chop it into four pieces and eat/lick/tongue/whateverfreakyshithe'sinto the nipples for a few minutes. All in high quality detail. I mean, I could tell you actually names and such, but that would ruin it, so yeah...

Slow, gruesome, and quiet show — not for everyone. Most of the reviews I read about it, people are so.. disgusted by it they're only doing the review so they can tell people not to watch it. Which I think is wrong, because it's a beautiful show, despite what anyone says. It's so... real. One of the closest depictions of feudal Japan in an anime you're going to get.

If it doesnt have Shigurui (the anime in my profile) it isn't legit...

Actually I'd go as far to say if you could sit through the entire run of Shigurui without looking away once, you've got balls of steel...

I'll admit I cringed at some parts. Worth it though.

Shigurui is the bloodiest anime I've ever seen but besides the gore, the characters are seriously badass and the show features a rivalry like no other.
