EDIT: even though nothing is behind you and you know it 100%

YEAH ITS CALLED THE "GOVERNMENT"

on a more serious answer.......

it could very possibly be a malevolent spirit, that want to cause trouble/mischief, or it be [i hate to say this word] a demon

It's a paranoid delusion. It is advisable to seek treatment for these things.

I'm usually not like that, but man, I get so paranoid when taking a shower; I start *thinking* that I see strange shadows outside the curtain. I can't tell you how many times i've wielded a shampoo bottle, ready to kill.

Yes. It's death. He's always there waiting just the right moment to grab your heart and stop it. Cool huh? Yeah I thought so.

Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly.

The word you're looking for is "relative", not "illusion"

"Illusion" means to have fun.

I'm sure it's normal once in awhile but whenever this happens to me I'm not 100% sure that there isn't anyone behind me because I usually hear footsteps and voices right behind me when my door is locked.

Thnx guys and sorry for making CR. a psychiatric forum, but that really helped. I think it all comes down to the weird paranoia i get and the way i start overthinking stuff. Though i don't think this is worth taking to a proffesional.

I like the way Coleridge put in best:

Like one, that on a lonesome road
Doth walk in fear and dread,
And having once turned round walks on,
And turns no more his head;
Because he knows, a frightful fiend
Doth close behind him tread.

And I think this sort of thing happens to most people at some point. As long as one is aware that this is an exaggerated response, I see no reason to be overly concerned. Still, the mind really is a frightening thing that can conjure dreadful ideas.

I think it's more of a question of whether its good for you or not.

Also, you have to consider the environment the person lived in or currently lives in. It's much more reasonable to do this in a city of crime then on a small town that never sees crime.in some cases it's much better than not even suspecting something happening behind your back.

Maybe it's not great for you, but it's probably better to be paranoid than to be stab because you didn't suspect anything.

All in all, I think it would could be considered perfectly normal in some situations, but if you really are 100% sure there is no one, and it's interfering with your life, maybe try talking with someone about it.

paranoid much? stop worrying so much and that feeling will go away.

unless you're at my house and you get that feeling someone is watching you...then it's probably my cat getting ready to attack you just for fun.

This is literally me when I'm walking anywhere at night time, particularly alone. Or walking past creepy, abandoned or desecrated houses /shudders.
