I an african american female, just for the record, and its okay to want to be or admire a different race as if you needed me to give the ok for this)

I remeber back in 7th grade my literature teacher asked us a question similar to this, and I said If I could choose my own race i'd be asian.

Theres nothing wrong with it IMO, def no evidence of self hatred bc youre fond of a different nationality, group, ethnic ect,

This is the way i think, were al created by the same God were all interconnected and in a sense one and the same.. our facial features and melatonin or lack of it shouldn't divide us but be celebrated bc it makes us unique.

So if asked again my answer would probably be mexican , w/ brown=ish skin and jet blk hair ((I know not all Mexicans look like this, but Idk I favor the darker ones ..and if I could I'd be like this

I understand the thread PERFECTLY. I just didn't care to elaborate. So don't go telling me what I do and don't understand.

Interesting. I'm African-American female and I shockingly wanted to be born biracial. Yet I share a love and hate toward my race.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to be a different race. If you find a race that you like more for whatever reason it may be whether it's the heritage, past or maybe you just like the look of the colour but there is definitely no self-racism involved for wanting to be a different race unless you're wanting to be a different race because you hate your own race and think that the other one is superior.Whether you are proud of your own heritage is completely up to you and whether you are or not is fine either way in my opinion.

I mainly mean the person hates their own race and wants to be another race since they find it superior. I understand that there are other people's nationalities/races/ethnicity that will also fascinate you yet some people take it to extremes.

Then there is most definitely racism if you want to be a different race because you think it's superior. It's definitely okay to want to be a different race if like you said they are fascinating to you or for some other reasons but of course thinking another race is superior to the other is just blatant racism.

Personally, I rather be mixed yet I don't want to get rid of being an African-American. There are other races I do find exciting and want to learn more about though I do want to know more about my African heritage. Still, I don't see any point in looking down on my own races to favor some other. I still love and hate(pity) African-Americans though.

NO! No, no, no.... I'm not perfect, but I take pride in who I am. If I were to ever lose that hidden sense of pride, then what would be the point?

Actually I used to want to be Mexican. I am mixed, but I used to HATE being Japanese because of my father...a complete and perfect example of everything bad that can be wrong with an evil person(EDIT: I means my father is evil, not the race O.o I just caught that). So I hated being connected to him. I still watched anime and read manga, and played games, but I really really hated him and even refused to continue learning the language until I was eight. Then when I was like fourteen I started to embrace it NOT BY CHOICE but because it just happened, and so it actually really hurts when I get those "put two and two together" people who go "you don't have Japanese blood because you love anime and everyone who loves anime wants to be Japanese" because they don't know all the pain behind why I am so in love with it now.

And as for the African American part, I really hated that too because I wanted to be like all my friends, and also because of the biracialness almost EVERY SINGLE black girl my age completely hated me and would bully me(along with some other reasons why I was being bullied that had to do with my father) and I didn't wanna be a part of that. I actually still get that even now. I get the "you just think you're so much better than everyone" comments from black girls when I'll be doing nothing but sitting in cafe drinking something. But I love it too now. Again, not by choice. I just happen to think I am very pretty and have a pretty skin(no, it's not "light" colored, so I don't like it because it's "different", I like it because it "me".) Also, I think my mom is pretty and I'm a part of her...But before that I really wanted to be Mexican, so much that I even tried to learn Spanish(which I failed at because I just can't, it's supposed to be easy but it is the hardest language for me for some reason).

To the person who said about her friend wanting to be Korean, I agree, I think it's good to love yourself, but you would be surprised at the amount of people around the world who think this, so this is actually a natural thought. I have Japanese friends who wish they were African because of the hair and style or who were Caucasian because they want rounder eyes, but no one picks at them, and it's good you don't pick at your friend <3

Every guy at some point wanted to be black, and every girl at some point wanted to be Asian. - ok, so that's a huge generalization, and probably only valid in the US, but I think it's something to consider.

I read an article a while back, where a dating site did a study on racial preferences between men and women (using message reply rates as the actual measured statistic).... found it, link below:
