Even though it hasn't officially come out yet wanted to start the discussion by saying I'm very upset.

They messed up Levi's voice. Very furious. CR Staff, if you have any connections with Funimation please show them how many fans are displeased with Levi's voice. Other VA can be debatable... like Mikasa's is alright. But they need to fix Levi's or this will really hurt the Anime and have a lot fans upset and pissed similar to M. Knight Shamal....(insert full name) did with The Last Airbender.

And for crying out loud can't they make the sounds more emphatic like the Japanese VA's. Like when Levi does his signature spin move, he makes a rugged "urgh" noise. You barely hear this in the dub even though it was a short clip.

Please relay the message ASAP before the dubbed is released. I think it should be pushed back because he makes that anime what it is imo.

@Moderators: If there's already another topic on this please move or delete thread.

It's fine the way it is. They seem to be taking this very seriously.

I don't think CR has any power in that regard, although I could be wrong.

You need to get off that high horse cause it sounds perfectly fine. He is suppose to sound like a 37 year old man not a high school kid. His Japanese voice is fine,he is actually my favorite voice actor. But a voice like that in English would sound a bit weird. You just need to get used to it cause your putting these expectations which isn't realistic. There voice actors not imitators!!!

Yep, Funimation is going to completely redo the dubbing work they've completed because one guy on the internet has an opinion.

Just saying this, but they've already dubbed the first part, at the least, since it's up for pre-order already and will be available in a few months. No changing the voices now, sorry. Also, the emphatically for his voice is based on the voice director's, you know, direction, and how he/she feels the character in that particular scene should sound, and the voice actor doing the role complies with that.

A good example of this is Mikasa's clip.

Who did you want to voice Rivaille for the English dub? Everyone is complaining, yet they don't want to say which voice actor is more suitable for Rivaille.

Levi does sound different, a stronger voice which I think might fit him better. All the other VAs really seem to fit. I think I might have to watch this show again.

I think they are doing a great job. I like every voice that I've heard so far. The people complaining about the VA's chosen are pathetic and annoying. Don't like the dub? Don't watch it then, they put both versions on there for a reason...

One thing all these wannabe voice "experts" on here and youtube seem to forget is that they are voice ACTORS not voice IMITATORS. They aren't going to match everything 100% and they don't need to. I swear the only way you complainers would be happy is if Funimation hired all the original Japanese VA's and just had them do the lines in "engrish."

Personally so far it seems like the voice actor for Levi is doing a nice job. Yes, some things in the dub will be changed to make it be more "Americanized" but it doesn't really bother me that much. =p

Do you really think FUNimation is going to hold auditions again to re-cast some of the actors, then voice the whole anime all over again just because some fans don't like it? I don't particularly fancy some of their voices, but it isn't terrible.

....It's in a different language and targeted toward a different cultural audience. OF COURSE the English dub is going to sound different from the original Japanese version!

Funimation is not ruining AoT. They did not ruin Levi's character. They did not ruin the pronunciation of Mikasa's name. In fact, the dub sounds pretty dang awesome from what I heard - you can tell they've been working really hard on it. The AoT Funimation dub is FAR from M. Night Shamalamadingdong's abomination The Last Airbender.

Funimation has produced some great dubs in the past, some of which I actually prefer over the original Japanese version. (See: Yu Yu Hakusho, Baccano!, Fairy Tail, FMA:B) That's right, I normally prefer the original VAs over dubs, but Funimation continues to provide great content that sometimes changes my perspectives on what sounds "right" in anime.

Is AoT going to sound different? Yes. Strange? Potentially, for some. Is the dub changing the story or characters? No.

1. Watch more than a 2-minute clip before deciding "OMG English voices are awful!"

2. Every voice actor, regardless of language, will give a different spin on a character.

3. While a lot of people emphasize the voice in voice acting, more need to emphasize the acting. They're not trying to imitate the original voices of the Japanese cast, nor should they. Anyone can do voices. Voice acting, now, that's another story.

What are people even saying on this thread I don't get it.

Has no one here seen how many negative reactions people have over Levi's voice? There's a massive gap between the people that like the VA versus people that don't.

Obviously it's meant to cater to an American audience and the VA is supposed to sound different. That doesn't excuse the VA to significantly not match his appearance. DBZ, Fairy Tail, Death Note, just to name a few have great dub actors that correspond to main charactors and their personalities and image. Levi's VA is just too far off. It doesn't matter that he's over the age of 35. It doesn't fit his image. It needs to significantly change.

I'm saying this because the reviews are tremendously negative. I'm just one person on the internet, they don't have to change it for me. They need to change it for the people who are loyal to the series and want this to translate well into America. Examples are Sean Schemmel for Goku and Sabat for Vegeta. Their VA is superb and matches the characters.

I've never seen enough to warrant a "massive gap", do you have sources you could link?

How does his English voice not match his persona or his image? Are you basing your reasoning off Mr. Kamiya's original performance? Can you explain?
