I'm asking this partially because I like to see other peoples opinions on things I like, and partially because I'm looking for things to read.
For me, my favourite series would be....hmmm.........this is actually kinda tough.

EDIT: So after some thought, I've decided on a toss-up between the Galactic Marines series by Ian Douglas and the Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson.

Ender's Game (Technically Sci-Fi, very psychological tho)
The Lost Fleet
Dune
Hyperion

I've also heard good things about the Foundation series.

The Vorkosigan series by Boujold

The Liaden series by Lee & Miller

They are both fun space operas.

I've read all of the Halo novels, its just some of them don't sit right with me. The Flood bugged the crap out of me with all the inconsistencies with the games, and the amount of Halsey hate in The Mortal Dictata was really off putting.

My favourite sci-fi series would be the Foundation series by Asimov and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Especially as the latter mercilessly mocks all sci-fi tropes, including the Foundation series.

My favourite stand alone sci-fi book so far is Stephenson's The Diamond Age.

Eeeehhh, I've read more comics than books. But I'd have to say The Hunger Games is favorite. Following Katniss on her journey from surviving this post-apocalyptic word to finding herself it's gripping, smart, heart warming, heart wrenching all the way through. Superb.

I don't go for series very often. My favorite short story is Palimpsest by Charles Stross.

Everything by Anne McCaffrey, but my favorite would have to be the Rowan series, followed by all the Pern [sub]series she wrote.

I also like Doctor Who, Star Wars and Star Trek novels.

And lets not forget Adam Douglas or George Orwell, they are grandfathers of modern sci-fi!
