Yes, it did make a sound. Just because I can't see Ohio, doesn't mean Ohio doesn't exist.

What is 'Ohio?'

the question has a failed wording. you say "nobody", which assume it's only referring to humans, but a forest consists of many animals with ears like rabbits, deers or birds.... so they can hear the tree fall.

the question should be worded like this, "If a tree falls in the forest, and no animals with ears were there to hear it, does it still make a sound?", then and only then would it be truly a mindf*** question.

Well, there is such a thing as reality, though I don't like to acknowledge it. In reality there would be vibration of sound waves, regardless of if there is anything nearby to hear or bear witness. Theoretically, to all those who do not hear or see, it simply didn't happen. It's not a part of their reality in their case, and therefor may as well have not happened. Following this line of reason, everything both happens and does not happen as long as there is someone that bears knowledge of the situation and one that has none of it. This can be applied to people as well; no one person knows everyone, therefor there are people that do not exist to at least some people simply because they are not capable of acknowledging that which they have no knowledge of. Not a very easy thing to explain, but hopefully I got my point across.

See, here's the thing about sound waves and your ears: your ears are receptors, and sound waves are physical phenomena which occur whether or not they are received by said receptors. Sound's existence isn't contingent upon your hearing it any more than the world's existence is dependent upon your eyes being open.

Just becasue nothing is around to hear a sound doesn't mean that there was no created sound, it just means no one was around to hear the sound. It is similar to if you leave your headphones plugged in, leave the room and forget to mute the audio. Sound will still be made but chances are you won't be able to hear it, unless of course you like the volume at insane levels.

"In physiology and psychology, sound is the reception of such waves and their perception by the brain."
- From Wikipedia
So in other words, to make a sound, it must be audible by something with a brain.
So no.

No because I put sound absorbent material where the tree fell.

"For generations philosophers have asked, 'If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?' The answer, by the way obviously is 'Of course it does.' I mean, duh! Right? Philosophers. Get a job thinky-boy!"
