Is it weird that even though this is a Shoujo, I feel like it plays up my little boys fantasies of getting the hot older chick?

I like how he's really young and being SUPER aggressive with someone who's supposed to have more experience than him. Show that girl how to be a woman!

I think that just works out that way, the shoujo stories seem to go for the absolutely freaking perfect guy with the tragic flaw or past, and honestly thats what guys wish they were anyways.

Edit: There's a huge list of shows of the 'perfect female protagonist/slightly more perfect male protagonist who desperately needs her to give his life meaning' line. The subgenre is honestly one of my favorites ><

Special A, Maid Sama, and Kami Sama kiss are all I can think of. They all do have pretty similar characters lol.

What I wonder though if shota is a common sub genre of Shoujo?

Honey in Ouran Host Club is the only one I can think of, though there is the cross dresser boy in Maid Sama.

I don't watch too much Shoujo though to think of more.

Neither do I so it's surprise me that I'm finding out there are girls into that genre lol. I was thought shota was a gag subgenre like Onee-chan ga Kita.

It's a sub genre I'm barely able to tolerate myself! It's just too......too... I don't know what word to use.

It's not a bad genre or idea, but it's hurt from stereotypes more so than other genres. The similarities between two shows of this plot can really hurt the other. Say "I love you" and My Little Monster feature main leads so similar, I hate them. The girls managed to be different, and it was amazing. But....enough with the naive perfect dudes I say! At least the Harem Genre knows they can't just force one stereotype, they force 7 of them! Swapping and reinventing when able.

That said, an exceptional male protagonist is capable of setting this Genre into some kind of epic overdrive, and I look for these genre's specifically for that.

And um...Shoujo Fantasy? Hells yeah. I'm not a fan of the "Hot older chick" but "Princess from a smaller country during Medieval Fantasy setting" is like, one of the best fantasies.

I was so ready to drop this during that first episode build up. If the revealed guy was Generic Man hunk, drop. I would only give the show a Pass if the boy turned out to be either a Gamagoori or Hideyoshi type. We got Type 2 and I'm fine with that.

Saiunkoku momogatari is another one.

Edit: The kid angle is different from the norm, as is the fact that she is *CLEARLY* more powerful than he is, especially with the magic &ct.

Quite a bit. It's a really soothing story, I guess; and Nike has a nice collection of character traits.
