Recently, I've noticed a lot of people on the forums just being.. Weird. For instance, I noticed on some forums there's people who are "elitists" because they watch every anime they can in every language available. Or, we have people who try to be some of the anime characters they watch. This is part of the reason I never tell people I secretly watch anime for hours and hours- because the stereotypes are true. Some of you guys legitimately only care about anime and anime only. It's just like when I played WoW and people were enveloped so much in the game- 5 years had passed and they didn't realize that they didn't accomplish anything at all.
Don't get me wrong- I love anime, cosplays, Japanese music and all that good stuff! I'm just saying I'm annoyed that you could really only care about this.
Also, the manga elitists are getting way too full of themselves. Nobody cares if you read the manga or if the manga was "better". I don't like the imagination being half-assed.
Rant over. I leave you with this.

I don't watch every anime out there, too mainstream.

We like to call those people weaboos. Give them a few years (or months) and they'll wish that they never did that stuff. It's a step, almost, every anime fan must take. Those awkward years where you act like someone with chuunibyou. Thinking back on it my weaboo time ended towards the end of 2012 and I still have parts of it coming out of me. And I regret every single moment of it.

This scene relates to me so much.

It's just like any other hobby. When someone likes a hobby, it can become an obsession, and not always in the best way. Sometimes those hobbies are short lived, while others like do to things in moderation.

I understand how you feel though. I haven't told anyone my interest in anime either. Not because I look down on people who take it to the extreme though, it's because I live in a really remote society that is extremely racist and refuses to understand other cultures whatsoever. Let alone hobbies that aren't academic or sports related..

I don't really think you are able to understand how much a person truly cares about anime just by reading their posts on a forum. Though many people certainly do watch a lot of anime and can care a lot about it, but if they want to do that then who cares? And since it's something they like, I think it's their own right to be proud of it.
Also, comparing an anime to its manga is rather similar to comparing a movie to its book. If the person believes the manga is better than the anime, then I don't believe they should be judged for stating their opinion.

Yes, but the point is that manga readers almost always bash people who watch anime. It's just annoying to even have to acknowledge the elitists.

I always wondered why people always hate on people who watch anime for long periods of time so much hate. I always said that watching anime for x amount of hours is pretty much equivalent to watch Sports Center for a whole day. Same exact thing

It's not that people I live with are ignorant- it's just frowned upon due to a lot of the people that do like it (at least around here) are creeps. So in my case, the majority ruins it for me and I'm forced to conceal it or be ridiculed. Not that I really care, I just prefer to not deal with the hassle.

I was going to say something similar to this, haha. Also, I'm an avid manga lover, but you don't see me shoving my opinion down people's throats. I'm a firm believer of the saying 'To each his own.'

(It just occurred to me that the amount of money I used to buy manga over the years could have gone to the Red Cross....and now I made myself feel like crap, yay. x.x)

I think I had my "weaboo" phase while I was deployed, but then again the only thing you can do while deployed, is watch anime and lift weights.
But that aside, it wasn't nearly as bad as my 7 year addiction to world of warcraft. That's just why I'm so fed up these weaboos, I've already gone down that rabbit hole- it doesn't end. It's just annoying to think that they're willing to dedicate their lives to something that's not going to do anything for them.

I mean, that's good for you. I guess I should have worded my opinion a little better, so allow me to rephrase:
The only reason I know someone reads manga instead of watching anime is because they'll announce it to the world.
It's like PC gamers or people who partake in Crossfit.

An elitist is one thing, but the rest of that OP made borderline zero sense. People take hobbies to extremes in everything, not just anime. Go to any dedicated message board for anything and you'll see people that have taken things seemingly overboard. It's going to be more prevalent with anime if you're browsing anime boards of course. I've never seen anyone try to be an anime character though, but I admit I have no clue what that actually looks like.

I always say if you're not hurting anyone then do what you please. If you want to turn your house into an anime wonderland and reenact scenes in your bathroom who cares. Just don't come to mine and turn my place into an anime wonderland and we're good.

And as an aside, everyone that I've told about my anime hobby (and even showing them the figure/merch collection I've started) have all liked it. Course I'm a bit older and past that age where people (shouldn't) ridicule you for your hobbies, but you're probably worrying too much about it.

Pfft well if manga readers are bashing anime watchers then that's just dumb. Not everybody likes to read.

I can't honestly say I know how you feel, because I've yet to meet a manga elitist. Most of the fans I run into at cons and the like are really friendly easy-going people who enjoy both manga and anime. You could try to avoid contact with these people if it bothers you that much, I guess?
