To be honest despite all the otaku assholes I really love the anime fandom. In every fandom you'll have those types of people.

Our fandom is built up of so many different categories of people like the self proclaimed stuck up elitist who believes god placed them on the Earth to correct all the lesser fans and the over obsessive japanophile who believes subs are the only thing acceptable, then like you said, secretly praises the dubs.

Despite all the bad anime fans, our fandom still has alot of innately good people who are funny, welcoming and peaceable.

I must say our fandom is alot better than most e.g. the brony fandom, not trying to trigger any arguments or anything.

Anyways, most fans are nice but every once in awhile you'll run into some idiot who thinks that their taste is better than everyone else's is.

The hardcore fans (and yurifags/lolicons) creep me out, though.

I for one find a growing population of hypocrites, band-wagoners, spiteful people, and "certified experts" in the anime fandom.

We have those who people who jump from bashing an upcoming English dub to praising it the next second *cough cough Attack on Titan dub*.

We also have those people who are too afraid to express their own opinions and jump on the bandwagon because they fear social criticism and the glorious barrage of downvotes. Embrace the downvotes. Downvotes give your comments pretty blue texts that read "Show Hidden Comment." Reverse effect really considering I love reading those comments.

Another addition to the lovely fandom are spiteful people who attack another person just to be mean or have the my way or highway mentality. They tend to intentionally start flame wars for sh*ts and giggles. In essence, they are close-minded too.

Last but not least we have our "certified experts" which are probably my favorite to come across. By "certified expert," I do not mean people with valid arguments or comments on a given topic, but people who are a-holes about it or are plain arrogant.

Those are my thoughts. What are yours?

Well my good man, I'm gonna have to stop you right there. I am, in fact, a certified expert. And let me just say your favorite anime/manga/vn/ln is most likely, bad.

It's not too bad compared to other fandoms, admittedly so.
There is, however, an alarming increase of band wagoners in the past few years.
There is nothing wrong with the fact that more people are "getting into anime" but parading around about your love for anime when all you've watched is Sword Art Online or Attack on Titan is a little annoying (actually, I've felt the same way about people who only watch One Piece, Bleach, Naruto or DBZ).

It's particularly annoying when these people claim that SAO or AoT is the "best" anime (let's be real honest, they screwed up SAO after 12 episodes and AoT is mediocre and they could've done an infinitely better job with this anime considering the quality of the original manga).

Like son, sit the fuck down. I understand not everyone can have watched anime their entire life, or have had enough time to watch some of the great anime from back in the 90s and early 2000s and all the other classics scattered over the last decade after only finding out about anime a few months prior but hell, at least show some humbleness when joining a new fandom and don't be an annoying ignorant dumbass who knows nothing and proceeds to make people like myself cringe.

Yes, it's a critical opinion but wow, "noobs" to anime have never been so worse and annoying - that's simply my opinion from what I've seen in the last 10 years in the anime fandom.

Care to elaborate on this?

To be honest, I never got why so many anime fans are hostile or disdainful to bronies. Being both, I can assure you that from my viewpoint there's really not much difference between the fandoms. Nor are there any valid grounds for either to dislike each other because of the content of what they watch

P.S. Not trying to fan any flames here, I won't get emotional. Promised!

I find with each passing year my like of anime is further diminished and can be contributed to three sources.

The first one is the sheer fact that the anime market has been hyper focused to teenagers. Nearly every plot can be attributed to this guy is a first year highschooler who hates his life, until one day... Simply put, the anime of the past that all ages could seem to enjoy like cowboy bebop and kenshin seem to be long gone.

The second ties in with the first, which is to me the absolutely creepy sexual way little girls are portrayed. I get it, I'm not 15 anymore, but when nearly every modern anime has this, adults who are not into this stuff have so little stuff to turn to watch.

Finally, lets talk about the actual fans. Never have I seen such a group of elitists, ever. Good on you, you spend all your days at home watching anime and collecting figurines, feel proud and rub it in when you correct people over the smallest thing ever and do it in the most asinine and spiteful way possible. There's always one wherever you go, I'm sure if I look through this thread there's probably one here.

In short, the demographic is becoming more narrow than ever despite there being more anime than ever and the content makes it hard for people of certain ages to connect.

Edit: Found one!

Honestly, I don't really see much of that "attacking" on this website, and that's why I like it so much.

Jump on the MAL forums on the other hand.....and we have a much different story.

The bottom line is, you really don't need to surf the forums if the elitism in this scene gets to you. Just watch the anime. If you really want to talk to others about it, I'd say this is a pretty good place to do it in order to stay away from the assholes in the community.

This. MAL has a nice interface, its quick and easy to add stuff and keep track on anime/manga. The community however, is pretty awful. Some people are cool and stuff though some people tend to go overboard with anime/manga.

Come on, that's hilarious .

Btw, on bronies: I have watched the first 3 seasons of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (dropped at season 4 as the quality was going down imho) and I don't see the issue. It's not especially different from watching, say, your typical cute-girls-doing-cute-things anime or something like that: it's pretty much the same, a fun (sometimes very witty, in fact) comedy but a pretty innocuous one - without the political/sex jokes of Futurama or South Park, for example.
I can see how people may consider it creepy if someone is, *ahem*, sexually attracted to the characters, but then again, isn't that creepy ANYWAY? Does it make much difference to be attracted to a highly stylized, completely unrealistic 2D portrayal of a little girl rather than a highly stylized, completely unrealistic 2D portrayal of a pony? If you accept one you may as well accept the other (in fact, considering that most moe girls are underage, in my book bestiality is still less harmful than paedophilia...), if you refuse both, they still don't constitute 100% of the fandom (luckily).

On yaoi: I've been a fanfic writer some years ago and have always found it quite annoying when it messes with the characters. I can see that in some cases there are hints at homoerotic attraction/relationships in anime that aren't explored just cause, duh, anime, they don't even go much into heterosexual relationships, figures. However many yaoi pairings are completely pulled out of one's ass. If a character is clearly heterosexual, throwing him in a yaoi pairing is equivalent to going OOC. At that point you might as well write a homosexual porn story with your own characters, what's the point? So yeah, it strikes me as silly but not especially problematic, it's just one thing some fangirls do.

Or of course it can be played for laughs like the above case .

Some girls in the yaoi fandom are actually jealous of the female character which is the sole reason for their pairing. Or they viciously hate heterosexual pairings in anime too. Some of those girls are insane and give the yaoi fandom a bad reputation. Thank goodness for the ones with sanity.

I'll admit I did laugh.
