What is wrong with these kids? Why do they act this way? What can explain this behavior? How will we survive as a species? These questions pass judgment even as they inquire.

“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.” ~ Socrates (469–399 BC)

I think there is only one thing that's objectively troubling with my generation (and I'm a bit older than the OP) and those that followed them, and that's that we basically all have Internet-induced ADHD. I find that my own attention span is minimal. I am mentally hyperactive, which means that I have tons of ideas that look very great in theory, yet never the patience to put them into practice. I think we all suffer of this to different degrees, and it is troublesome in a way because even if it means we're not stupider, it also means we kinda act that way. Internet omnipresence (with smartphones and tablets) only makes this even worse. I think this has troubling practical implications, as our world needs more and more intelligence and science to be maintained, and this is making our ability to make new discoveries worse.

People like myself are too dependant on the extranets and we lack social skills or we barely get by in having actual conversations

I was going to genuinely reply to your thread till I got to this post. I've come to realize what type person you are just by these words. I grew up in a country town with old people who wear cowboy hats and deem anyone who isn't like this a threat and I'm willing to bet you fall into this same bigoted category. Not to say old people that wear cowboy hats are bigots, but I don't feel it necessary to explain myself.

So with that I bid you farewell. Good luck in all your future ventures.

I also look at people with snake bites and their ears are gauged THIS MUCH, they have Monroe piercings, etc.. and I wonder what's wrong them... it looks ugly, unsightly even... I have a hard time looking these people in the face

I think most generations end up weirder/crazier than the last, I mean look at the teenagers from the 60's who were probably the most "mucked up generation" of that era.

I agree that our generation is stupid and gets hooked on fads too quickly. I see children who are like 9 with iPhones and iPads, not to mention all the spoiled little children out there; I mean my first phone was a frigging nokia.

I see really young children on Facebook and Twitter and I don't really understand it, I've even met at least 3, 7-9 year olds on violent games like COD. It seems children are trying to mature early. As for teenagers I've never known some people be so idiotic, getting pregnant, smoking, drinking, getting tattoos.

It seems our generation just tries to be outrageous but ends up being stupid instead, with the minority giving the majority a bad name.

The kids growing up around my area are being given technology and all of these grand things (and I see why some might find that to be terrifying) but personally I feel that it is a great thing! We are constantly advancing technology and if our kids didn't start as young as they do they would have a hard time living in this world. If we don't give them a computer till they turn 16 and suddenly expect them (in a short 2 years) to master this new technology and apply it to jobs, banking, travel, bills, and everyday life; they are sure to fail. Do you throw the kids in the pool to see if they can swim or do you slowly teach them how to stay afloat?

And sexuality isn't something new. It has, and always will be, a part of human nature. The greatest achievement we can observe in the children to come in the next generation is the deconstruction of the preformed prejudice against non-straight sexualities. This is a remarkable thing. Will it be something that just completely disappears before our eyes? no. But these kids that you are condemning are more accepting than any generation before theirs. Racism, sexism, gender identity discretion, and many other discriminations have all begun to disperse, both in our generation and definitely the next.

As others have already pointed out, this generation isn't particularly worse than any other. In fact, by taking the entire generation and judging it by the few outstanding radicals is far from accurate. Should we condemn the generation that produced people like Hitler just for being born around the same time as him? Another example: People have been picketing and protesting military burials, should we be angry at these people who are actually protesting, or should that blame be applied to the entire age group? The answer is obvious.
My point being that nobody should be judged by another persons actions. If my uncle went out and threw kittens out a window or punched homeless people would I be blamed for that because he is part of the family. Would you think, "That must be an awful family." or would you simply say, "That guy is awful!!"

Stop profiling.

Exactly, the entire generation gets judged by the few radicals within it. The minority is misrepresenting the majority.

Believing an entire generation of kids/teenagers is "fucked" or "corrupted" is absolutely stupid to begin with, and you'd have to be out of your mind to even think that in the first place. We're doing perfectly fine.

*Shakes his head* Every generation has been told they are fucked by previous generations and they have turned out all right. This generation of kids won't be different from the other generations. They may have some problems we didn't have to face, but we had problems others didn't have to face as well.

Read some Socrates, bruh. Why does everything "right" have to fall into your definition of "right"? If you want the answer, read some Nietzsche, Plato, and then read up on world events between 300 AD and 1700 AD. Your definition of what's right and proper comes from what you've been conditioned to expect from the world, and you're unhappy with the way the world is because there's some disparity between your expectations and what you're seeing. Try being productive with your criticisms, instead of saying that the world is failing.

First, im not in any way bigoted towards anyone. Secondly, with all due respect, dont put me in the same category as some old dudes who wear cowboy hats. Now I was giving my opinion on this generation, but apparently you seem to take offense to my post. While I will apologize for offending you I WILL NOT change my honest opinion. I was giving an example of what I see on a daily basis and I chose to post it, maybe kids in your locale arent so douchey
