I enjoyed SAO a lot! I know there is a lot of hate for the romance in it to... but the romance just made me enjoy the show even more

I love School Days (Anime and VN). That's why I bought School Days HQ CE.

I also fall into this category, but I bought the standard edition.

And Bible Black does have one thing going for it, IMO, and that is superior production values compared to most hentai.

Didn't realize SAO was controversial, but I like it. The first half was badass.

Someone mentioned Eden of the East. I'm almost halfway through the series, and liking it.
Side note: it's like a large scale version of finding pieces to last night's blackout. Except I don't have that much money or power...

I like both FMA series' equally. Boom, I said it! But of course I like the higher animation quality of Brotherhood more.

And this last one may only be controversial to me because it fits nowhere into my preferences nor is it even comparable alongside any other series I've watched. And it's... Princess Jellyfish. No idea why I started it, but the end of the first episode was shocking enough. Then, by the end of the second, I was already invested in the characters and story. I also love the Dynasty Warriors references! Didn't take long to realize my favorite character. I just wish the ending was more well-rounded/conclusive.

No.6 some people found controversial as some thought it had to much bishounen and others thought it had too little yaoi, but for what it was it was good i thought...and that ending

Man, there are some seriously non-controversial shows being listed here.

SAO is not controversial though FFS. It's ranked #60 on Anime Planet with 25,000 users having watched it, and only 800 having dropped it (pretty favorable rates) and I can't see the number but it looks like an average score of 4.2-ish out of 5. MAL is even better with 215,000 watched and 11,000 dropped. And an average score of 8.2 out of 10. Apparently it's ranked #224 but is #9 in popularity which I don't understand. But either way not bad.

And finally even Crunchyroll has similar statistics as well in terms of ratings, it's the #9 most popular anime on the site and seems to have an average rating of around 4.5 out of 5 stars. I could probably look at other sites and see pretty much the same thing- a moderately successful anime that a lot of people like.

Now the most controversial anime I enjoyed is probably Kodomo no Jikan. There are some seriously twisted hentai I've watched that I feel less guilty over watching than this show

No.6 is NOT a yaoi series. It is a shonen-ai. There is a big difference between the two categories.

For me, definitely the Kodomo no Jikan manga.

I can certainly understand the controversy, but there's a really well-crafted story about some seriously broken characters figuring out how to become less broken.

Also, I think it works because of its controversial nature. by tackling the issues head-on from the point of view of a child character who keeps asking why she's too young to think about sexual matters you actually get to explore exactly why that age is too young to think seriously about such matters. And that Rin and Reiji (and several other characters) are basically quite broken. And only a few small section of the main cast really acts in any way normal.

Also, I can't help but just find it funny having an adult character totally flustered by being hit on and basically sexually harassed by a kid.

Manga:
Nana to Kaoru - I think it is a great love story
Futari Ecchi - I think it is a great primer for those who really do not know anything about sex or sexuality. You throw in that the main couple is just so endearing as they learn about these things together.
Nozoki Ana - I can't help. I just love the bizarre relationship of the two main characters.

Anime:
Kodomo no Jikan - I would have hated it if the guy had ever given in to the advances. It also goes for manga. Because he waited until she was of legal age.

Part of my problem is that I do not know a lot of what people consider controversial.

Bible Black looks like family-friendly programming compared to Night Shift Nurses. Holy shit.

What about Taimanin Asagi, Kangoku Senkan, or Kuroinu?
