4wd vehicles have a transfer case, awd vehicles are driven through the transmission.

The original version of Vtec only controlled valve lift. The modern iVtec controls valve lift and cam phasing.

Porsche's traction control is called PSM - Porsche Stability Management

DFI - Direct Fuel Injection
TFT - Transmission Fluid Temp sensor
AIR - Air Injection Reaction

AWD's are usually based off of FWD drivetrains. Simply put, they're transaxles with a rear driveshaft. But some AWD systems are RWD based and do have a transfer case.

Subaru has what they call "symmetrical AWD", which means there is no transfer case to send the engine torque to the rear wheels. Or at least I think... BTW, Subaru's DCCD is an adjustable AWD system.


Yes, 4WDs are switchable. You can switch between hi/low gears and 2WD/4WD.....

VVT-i-/VVTL-i= Toyota
Mivec = Mitsubishi
Zetec = Ford
V-tec/iV-tec = honda

...there are a few more but i forgot what they company they were
