I'm just here to shamelessly promote one of my favorite manga series, and discuss it with anyone interested.
It's little known, and I find that to be a shame. You don't see many manga themed like this.

Gate, is a web-manga series, based off of a novel. New chapters get released on a monthly basis. Here is where they are initially released.

http://www.alphapolis.co.jp/manga/view_manga_opening.php?manga_sele_id=138000030

There is a survey at the end of each chapter so you can tell the mangaka what you think of it. If you enjoy it, feel free to fill it out, I bet the dude would love to see all the positive western reviews.

And for the rest of you, Ill just copy a description of it for you.

One day in the 21st century, a gate opened in the middle of the Ginza district of Tokyo. Out of the gate poured soldiers and strange creatures, and they soon made Ginza look like an image of hell. The gate apparently connected Japan to
another world, a world with a militant empire and many supernatural creatures. The Japanese Self-Defense Force
decided to send a small group, led by a soldier who's also an otaku, into the other world on a reconnaissance mission. They're meant to learn what they can about the empire (and its plans), the world, and the people.

They're hardly in the world yet, though, when they come across a village destroyed by a giant fire-breathing dragon. The only survivor is an unconscious elven girl they find hidden in a well. Now they feel like they must warn
the nearby towns about the dragon, and do what they can to help. On the way, they'll meet more magical, female companions, and learn more about this dangerous new world.

Well, we could ask those who have read the LN, but I'd rather it be a surprise.

Also, the author is taking a break next month apparently. So our next chapter won't be till Sep 30th...........FUUUU!

She's just hamming it up, till she can get her revenge on the prince. Which I'm told she does.

My favorite theme of in stories. The whole idea of modern technology meeting the world of swords and magic (or time traveling to a past period and using the modern knowledge to your advantage type of thing). The first 32 chapters or so of this manga were absolutely enthralling. I can't even count how many times I have re-read this manga.

The later chapters have been a bit slow because the story is starting to fragment out as the author begins to explore the grander scheme of things. A bit disappointed to hear that the author will be taking a break this month because the story as it sits at the moment is leaving quite a bitter taste in my mouth. I really want to know what happens next, but the original light novels are untranslated >_<

Anyways, if anyone is looking to curb their Gate fix in the mean time, I do recommend checking out these series:

Mushoku Tensei (Light Novel) - On the pervert side but the characters, the setting, and the story are extremely interesting. Probably one of the more unique series out there.

Outbreak Company (Anime) - Same idea as Gate but on the extremely light side. Still an entertaining watch.

Rune Troopers (Light Novel) - Same exact idea as Gate but from a different perspective. Very little of it is translated but it looks promising, so keep an eye out on this one. It is by a different author but there are rumors that it takes place in the same exact world as Gate.

I would also like some other recommendations if anyone has any. This is quite a rare theme for a story to come by.

In the off chance anyone is interested, Volume 5 of the manga was recently released. I just got mine in the mail. Can't read a lick of it, but I like supporting the author.

Also, would anyone be interested in a CR Gate group? I've been mulling it over.

I don't think he will die. I don't even think bunny girl is going to die. At worst he will be with the medics for a while, and she will have to get a bullet taken our of her butt haha.

You know I've recently gotten into a LN called Mushoku Tensei that is fan-translated. Makes me wonder what the Gate LN is like.

GATE isn't a LN, it is a full-blown novel series, which is why it will never be translated. Someone actually tried to translate the first GATE novel, but it turned out to be so complex, so long, and so full of difficult vocabulary that they figured that nothing short of a fully paid translation team could actually pull it off, so it was dropped after the first couple chapters.

At least this is what I heard when someone asked about it.
