I feel that the 4th girl will basically be the announcement of "the beginning of the end" just because having a sudden girl win it all would be pretty bad. Either way once the 4th girl appears I feel we'll have an end soon. Marika has a major secret apparently and with the large amount of what I'll call "character expansion fillers" after the hint of a 4th key would point to the fact that the author might be delaying an end.

I love Theory #3, because it makes the most sense, seeing as all girls would remember making a promise.

I also think that it could be that each one of the girls has a promise for him. Now that we know who the 4th girl is (Yui Kanakura)

I think that the promises go something like this (or along these lines):

- Yui: I promise to always be your big sister. Yui has the shortest key of them all. If the lock was to have some sort of layers (the necklace is pretty damn big...), Yui's would unlock first. Since she's the eldest, and was seen as the big sister and now teacher, she's the one who will guide the rest of them to their rightful places. Her key also has a chip in it, which makes me believe that she tried to unlock the locket before because she believed she may not have seen Raku again. (The piece of the key that's missing is what is keeping Raku's locket from opening)

-Tachibana: I promise to always be your friend and support you. Tachibana has the next shortest key, there for she is probably just a supporter, not one of the closest two. She wasn't able to go play with the others because of her illness as a child, but Raku was there for her to support. She'd probably promise to do the same thing when she got better. Then the parents (not her and Raku) set up an arranged marriage, which Tachibana then took as the ultimate way to support him.

-Chitoge: I promise to be your best friend. For always. Chitoge has the next key, which is the longest of the small keys (Onodera has the biggest key of them all.) I think that, as a child, Chitoge did love Raku. But she was close with Onodera, too, and probably realized that she liked him as much as she did. Therefore she promised not to be together with him, but to be best friends with both of them.

-Onodera: The marriage promise. Onodera has the longest key of them all, which also has the heart-shaped end and the cross in the head of a key. The cross and heart to me means marriage (not just because of the Christian view, but like, love under all gods and such.) I think that she is the girl that Raku remembers. Onodera has always liked Raku, and also is the first girl seen with the picture book. I believe that the pages Raku drew the "happy ending" on had been so worn from Onodera reading them they they fell out and were then discarded.

However, just because their promises go this way doesn't mean that Raku ends up with Onodera. I think that he will slowly fall for Chitoge, and in the end, when they unlock the locket (or the many layers of the locket), he will have to chose: The promise girl, and old crush, or his forced girlfriend that he now loves. In the end I think he'll chose Chitoge, despite her not being the promise girl, because that's how mangas go :P

Anyway, that's just my theory~ Sorry it was such a long reply, I just thought you'd like to hear another thought

Haha thanks I just thought that the length of the keys had to mean something. And the locket is so big that it is possible it may have layers or have to be unlocked in a specific order to open. :3

Theory #1 Parent Disapproval
- There's no doubt there's a 4th girl with the key. Raku as a child played with all the girls at one point and were close friends. The chosen girl's parents were a normal family and were against her meeting with Raku because his parents was affiliated the Yakuza. She had to leave ultimately, but Raku made a promise with her that they will meet again and will marry each other with the help of the other girls (Chitoge, Onodera, Marika) so they each get a key and remember the uniting words as "Zawsze in Love."

Theory #2 Military vs Yakuza
- The chosen girl's parents were involved in the military and had to move away because of their jobs. Raku made a promise with her that they will meet again with the help of the other girls (Chitoge, Onodera, Marika) so they each get a key and remember the secret words as "Zawsze in Love."

Theory #3 Keys were part of the game.
- They keys were props that children (who all knew each other at the time) used for role-playing story from that book, Raku being boy was always in role of prince carrying that lock, while girls might have been rotating role of princess between themselves, otherwise acting as girls that where helping prince go through obstacles (to go through them an key was needed and ALL girls have an key) thus as part of game Raku might have been giving promise "Zawsze in Love" to all the girls. Thus memory of promise was made.

Ending Background: Raku's Mother
- The 4th girl is explained through Raku's mother (Not seen yet). She says that due to their family differences, the 4th girl had to leave and move away due to the conflicts between them (Her parents were with normal or involved in a political faction such as the military or government).

Ending Theory #1: Chosen Girl in a Relationship
- The 4th girl returns to Raku to tell him that she did make the promise and she hands him the last key. She tells him that she had loved him in the past and is unsure now because she has a lover and is currently in a relationship. What is inside the lock is a ring that symbolize their bond. She talks to Raku about their time together in the past and that he should give the ring to a special someone.

Ending Theory #2: Harem Ending
- The 4th girl meets up with everyone and reveals that the keys were used to symbolize the story they read together, however with the good ending Raku rewrote. All the keys were able to unlock the Locket (See Theory #3 Above).

I completely forgot about the locket subplot lol.

I mean the story has pretty much been just focusing about Raku's current feelings which were towards Onodera but are starting to lean more and more toward Chitoge.

He's pretty much just shooting everyone else down one by one.
