Are you truthful, and if not, why do you feel the need to not be your true self? And what persona have you created for yourself to either be accepted or to fool someone. And when you were found out, did you just vanish, or apologize and come clean?

When I was younger, I was dumb and gained a stalker for giving out my info. Never again. I don't give out a lot of personal information now unless if I actually knew the person for a while.

Yes or no. Do I even have a 'real' self? Do I even have a 'fake' self? What is real and what is fake? I don't know. Neither do you. Let's just enjoy our obfuscation together.

When I was younger I would simply omit my age and let people assume I was older. People rarely ask if you aren't acting a fool, so it worked out pretty well. There's plenty of bias against 12-15 year olds on the internet (some of it is very justified), and I didn't want to be lumped into that group.

At this point I don't know if I really have an internet personality. I just say things sometimes.

I've never felt the need to hide my personality. There are some private things I've kept (and will continue to keep) hidden, but those things do not affect how I portray myself overall.

I've never actually lied about anything, but I do a good job trying to cover up anything that could be used against in a criminal way. I often like to add a little humor into the mix. But maybe this is a lie, you don't know. I could be a 7 year old girl for all you know, or a 37 year old man still living with his parents. That's the great thing, you don't know who I am unless I tell you.
So yes, I'm truthful.

No I don't. When I was younger thought I'd tell people I was a year older than I really was.

I'm not as shy in person as I am on the internet. However, I'm more real to strangers on the internet than I am to strangers in person. Simply becasue I don't feel as judged.

I'm a little wittier online than I am in real life, but that's just because I can take my time to formulate my responses. Other than that, I'm pretty much the same person online as I am in real life. Being someone other than myself has never really appealed to me.

I posted, and then reread this, and I'm still not totally sure what you mean.

If you were faking something, then you, for your own good, should come clean if you can, but don't give away the store. No one on the internet, especially someone you were fooling, needs to know who you "really" are. Who you "really" are is information that leads to your credit card numbers or home address or really scary stuff. That includes your real name.

It's enough to say the person they thought you were isn't real, and say you are sorry if you hurt them. Don't be surprised if they don't trust you fully on that, either.

It clearly bothers you, which is good. It should. It means you are fully human. People who don't feel that aren't even worth pitying.

But the bottom line is, the more I read this, I"m thinking, don't you mean right now? What are you not telling us asking these hypotheticals? It's so vague, I have no idea how to answer beyond that. Or rather, I could write a book with all the potential answers, and it wouldn't be enough to answer everything that comes to mind in 10 minutes of writing this.

I'd suggest you ask elsewhere than the forums, to someone you can tell the whole story to. Until you can tell the whole story, I'd just suggest you don't go where you were fooling people for now. It'd be best if you pick the most responsible and trustworthy person you know IRL. Or people.

Just my opinion, which is pretty vague because I honestly have almost no information here.

I'm pretty much the same, only thing is people take me more seriously online then they do in real life. Maybe it's because people online don't usually get to judge me by my appearance first. Or maybe I'm just delusional and the truth is no one ever takes me seriously.... Lol
