That's irrelevant. The topic is LaVeyan satanism, not Anton LaVey.

Yes it is. Any time you review a religion and it's teachings we first have to look at who taught them and how did they become inspired to teach them.

Did Anton LeVay get his revelations from Satan himself? Or did he just copy and rewrite other peoples work? Since you have a love for wiki

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anton_LeVay

Now for the fun part. My wife's family have a history of with LeVay, and have met him. My wife's father use to live in San Francisco and working in the theater with a love of old movie house organs, this is where the two of them met. I have listened to the personal accounts of the interactions. I have have concluded after listening to the stories, Anton LeVay was wacked and in it for the money.

His teachings were the works of other people that he wrapped up in a package and sold at profit.

My option.

Irrelevant. That has nothing to do with the values presented in the ideology itself. Whether he made it on his own or just reharshed other people's work -- or if he was genuine or just in it for the money -- has nothing to do with the merits of that ideology in itself.

Then explain to me how exactly Mr. LaVey's motivation has any impact on the merits of the ideology itself as a standalone concept...

I'm a theistic satanist ( I believing and worship an actual being whom I call satan) as opposed to LaVey's more atheistic approach to Satan and I'm also a member of the Clergy and withing my outreach work I have found that it is very common for theistic satanists to have had their own beliefs kick started by LaVey and the CoS. This was the case for me too, LaVey gives his readers permission to think for themselves, he tells us that! It's okay to re-think what you previously held as true. Sure he might have been a bit of as scamp when it came to pinching other peoples work but we're still talking about him and his/others work today.

"Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, as he has kept it in business all these years"

well that genuinely got a lol from me... not bad.

at the end of the day, they are rules and probably so, the followers do not follow them to a T.

laveyan satanism followers probably dance with God now and then... i wonder who it attracts, probably the previously religious.

I have two close friends that have followed this belief system for a very long time, now. They're two of the kindest people that I know. If asked about their beliefs, they'll calmly explain themselves, & remove themselves from the conversation if someone disrespects them. They've never once started a conversation about beliefs - only answered when asked.

Definitely one of the least intrusive religions that I've ever come across.
