“Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something. It’s basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult. Being a geek is extremely liberating.” — Simon Pegg

and the surprising thing is people hate seeing that in others when they don't allow it for themselves. They button themselves down to behave the way they feel society says they should and for some reason they don't like to see others unabashibly happy about the things they enjoy.

It's kind of a weird knee jerk reaction of "I Don't enjoy that stuff so neither should other people and they need to be punished and ridiculed for liking what I don't like"

You aren't conforming to the norm, therefor you are evil and must be made a target for punishment

Simple I think. They hate what we love and hate on us for liking it. I shall never understand that way
of thinking.

It works both ways. There are some anime fans that would insult people for not liking anime, even if they wouldn't insult them back.
There is no one way street when it comes to insulting anyone.

Just what I think.

What's wrong with boobies? They provide cushioning, nourishment, and smiles. I don't see how that could be evil.

Plain and simple.

It's the same way it was with video games before they became mainstream. When people haven't learned how truly amazing something can be they disparage it for being out of the norm. But at the rate 'geeky' things are becoming cool and with the rise in popularity of anime I give it five years before it's the hottest shit in geek-chic. (Ugh. "Geek-chic" ...sorry.)

I Love Anime and Manga and i love to Cosplay and I always have ever since I was Kid, over the years growing up people would treat me like shit and bully me just for being a Fan of Anime, i'm now 27 years old and i got a job and a apartment and i still get treated like shit just for being a Anime Fan people call me Weeaboo, stupid retarded all kinds of names, my next door neighbor calls me a weeaboo when i go to work and it pisses me off so why do people insult Anime Fans? why can't they just respect us and treat Anime Fans with respect?

Too often, people tend to treat anyone significantly different from themselves in the same manner. At the root of it they are simply insecure people that attempt to make themselves feel superior by belittling others for their difference (at least when they are in a social environment where they can get away with it). It wouldn't matter if your interest was anime or something else, as long as it was something foreign to them.

It is a simple fact of life that some people are jerks. I've found the best defense is simply to keep them in the dark as to whether you are "like them" or not.

“When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty, I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”
― C.S. Lewis

As C.S. Lewis states, many people are close minded and immature. They're missing out. While other shows often take things too seriously, anime can often contain a lot of great, self deprecating humor with an awareness of its own tropes and genres. I love how anime usually lacks the sort of pretentious feeling that I often get from other kinds of entertainment. Anime shows like Watamote, Welcome to the NHK!, Gurren Lagann, Ouran High School Host Club, and so much more can only be described as unique and special. I also like how well the art can show character expressions (it can better reflect what's going on in the character's mind), and I can usually tell when producers really love the music, genres, and culture in anime and manga as a whole.

Oh, there's nothing wrong with serious shows either though; there are a lot of those that I also enjoyed.

Maybe some of you people are socially awkward and that contributes to people picking on you? Just saying, I've never been insulted for ANY hobby I've ever had. So it puzzles me how others that have the same hobby take such a beating over it.

Introverted people do tend to talk about anime and Japan a lot on the net according to some research I don't remember.
