What do people here think of the Gameboy Advance part of the Wii U Virtual Console?

I think it's a great descision on Nintendo's part. There are plenty of classics on the Gameboy Advance, and more people should be able to play them. Some games are affordable, while others are insane. When I bought Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga early last year, on Amazon it cost $112.00, so I had to go to Gamestop to get a used copy for $14.00. It's a great game, but that's still way too much. I have a feeling I'll probably still get the original cartridge versions as well, though, if only to get more use out of my GBA. I lost the majority of my DS games, so the GBA and 3DS are the only portable Nintendo systems I can get much mileage out of.

I think it would make far more sense to put it on the 3DS.
But then, they probably put it on the Wii U purely to give people more of a reason to buy one.

They're working on it actually. In a quote from Natsume:

Nintendo does not put recent console games on the 3DS eShop, and sadly that means we cannot either. The same goes with GBA (outside of the ambassador games) — though they’re working on this and we look forward to the day it’s possible. ...We’re aware today that Nintendo has announced plans to launch DS games for the WiiU – it’s an exciting time, and we’ll be reviewing our DS catalogue for potential titles.

As an Ambassador myself, I do find myself playing these game quite a bit, especially Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, Wario Land 4, Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, and The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. I'll be more than thrilled when I can add other classics like Fire Emblem and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land to my 3DS.

As for the Wii U though, I'm really excited about it. I myself have yet to find a copy of Advance Wars, so I'll be grabbing it as soon as I can. The rest I either have as an actual Game Pak or from the Ambassador Program. As a collector though, I'll also be purchasing the other games as well in time.

This. 3DS has a far larger user base, at this point.

I think the point of putting it on the Wii U first, though, is to attract that bigger user base. Granted, I'm not really sure it'll work, but I think that's the logic for why Nintendo's doing it. The thing is, if my theory is true, then it'd still be stupid, because nobody buys a home console to play handheld games from two generations ago. I just think the fact they're doing it at all is nice for those that may not own a GBA or didn't get certain games for it.

I think Gameboy Advance games would be better on the 3DS. Keep portable games on portable systems. >.>

Its fine its like Super Gameboy and Super Gameboy 2 (never release in the States) for SNES except you can download it and play it.Most people want it on 3DS which is fine but Nintendo is trying to attract people to buy it on Wii U to play on the system.

I don't think the 3DS is powerfull enough for gba games with the advanced emulator Nintendo uses.
If you play a GBA VC game on the 3DS (Ambassador program) The console literally goes into ds firmware mode and opens the regular ds gba emulator. And come on, ZELDA MINISH CAP ON TV!!!

So you're saying the 3DS can't emulate GBA, but it can emulate GBA. Right?

Speaking as a member of the Ambassador Program, yes, it does GBA just fine, even if it has to go into DS-style mode to do it.

It's a great addition to be honest and I want them to add more of the MegaMan Battlenetwork games because those are super fun to play. I'm also waiting for them to add N64 games

What I meant was that the 3ds can't use the advanced emulator features Nintendo uses.

I like it.

Kinda wish it was on 3DS, though.

Then I would get to play Mario and Luigi on the go again!

Can't believe I lost that game...
